Re: how to increase range connection in a westell versalink 327?

2.4Ghz is all the VersaLink and any other Wi-Fi router that isn't a Wireless N router can use. The only thing you can really do is try to change the wireless channel to a clean one to shift around in the 2.4GHz band a bit. Traditionally, channels 1 and 11 are the best channels to use. 6 is always the crowded one.

acuariano,

The VersaLink 327W operates on 2.4 ghz. You wouldn't want to use any other antenna for that.

Maybe you're confusing GHz with gain. You can get higher gain antennas than that which is referenced on my previous link. You can look around on eBay for that, or use google to search the Internet.

Sometimes you can improve reception by simply adjusting the orientation of the antenna. That is, move the antenna slightly until you notice the best reception, similar to what we used to do with rabbit ear antennas on TVs (back when).

acuriano,

A larger hi-gain antenna can improve range:

These antennas can be used on both the router and on the wireless card on a PC.

When you say "it" what do you mean?

Are you moving modem/router and plugging it into a different phone jack? In that event do you mean DSL levels are impacted.

OR
With router on main floor WiFi signal is weak? If so where are PCs relative to router?

OR
You relocate a PC using WiFi from basement to main floor with router in basement and WiFi link becomes very weak?

If there are other access points around you that your wireless devices are detecting, have you tried changing your wireless channel from something such as 6 to Channel 1?
