said by Guspaz :said by petehermas :Does someone in here has some kind of sheet/data comparison chart so we can compare them side by side.
IE;
TekSavvy's unlimited service is $40/mth. Acanac's regular pricing is $34/mth. Colba's regular pricing is $35/mth. First, a note, Acanac's regular month-to-month pricing is $40/mth, not $34/mth. Another thing to consider are dryloop costs. TekSavvy handles those fees at-cost (passing on the exact charge Bell gives them). Acanac does an average and charges $8 (which is either more or less than TekSavvy depending on where you live). Even at reqular price $40/month (tax included) Acanac still cheaper than TekSavvy $40/month + tax... because Acanac price is tax included.
After finish one year special price at Acanac, if you need unlimited and don't want prepaid higher price, you can switch to Velcom unlimited no contract $30/month + tax... TekSavvy is expensive $40/month + tax...
Same go with DryLoop fee...
minimum DryLoop fee is
Band A $7.25/month + tax
Acanac DryLoop fee is fixed $8/month (tax included) |

Unless you don't need Unlimited, like me, and am on the group rate. I pay about $28.35 after tax to TekSavvy (before dry loop fees) for a 200GB connection, month-to-month. That's cheaper than either Acanac or Velcom.

TekSavvy is expensive $40/month + tax... Unless you don't need unlimited. TekSavvy's unlimited service isn't the cheapest out there, I won't dispute that. But few people actually need it, because 200GB is enough for many people.

Acanac DryLoop fee is fixed $8/month (tax included) $7.25 plus tax is a total of $7.61. That is what my dry loop fee is. For me, that's less than Acanac's $8. For others, they would pay less to Acanac. As I said, some people will pay less than $8, some will pay more.
My bill for the first line after tax with TekSavvy is roughly $36/mth. Acanac would charge me $48/mth. So as long as I don't need unlimited, I'm saving money. And it remains cheaper as long as I use less than 300GB/mth.
Since I have two lines, TekSavvy Unlimited is actually cheaper than Acanac, because adding unlimited to two lines would cost me an extra roughly $13/mth, while switching to Acanac would cost me an extra $24/mth. That's because with TekSavvy I would only need unlimited on one line, while Acanac would cost the $48/mth for both lines. |

$26.95 + $1.35 (5% tax) = $28.30 + $7.61 (band) = $35.91/mo |

Guspaz Guspaz Premium,MVM join:2001-11-05 Montreal, QC | It's the group rate or the prepaid year. I'm on the group rate, which involved finding three friends who were fed up enough with Bell to switch. It wasn't hard. Our group now has a few more people than required to maintain the size. |

You are once again giving prices that are based on hooking your firends, family and whatever else up to get those prices.
Some people just want the real honest price w/o having to try and convince people to change ISP and go out selling another ISP to their friends/family.
So whats the true cost again? Single line? two lines? |

2 edits | reply to ahem True cost for two lines, after tax (and assuming all Acanac prices include tax):
TekSavvy Premium (one line, dry): $39.06 TekSavvy Premium (two lines, dry): $78.12 TekSavvy Unlimited (one line, dry): $47.20 TekSavvy Unlimited (two lines, dry): $86.36 Acanac (one line, dry): $48.00 Acanac (two lines, dry): $96.00
This is as apples-to-apples as you can get, all of them month-to-month, no prepays, no discounts, no group rates. For somebody living where I do, this is exactly what I'd pay (unless my calculations were off).
TekSavvy is cheaper in all cases, significantly so with single-line premium (if you don't need the extra bandwidth) and dual-line unlimited.
EDIT: This is using the $7.25 plus tax band rate, because that's what I pay. |

1 edit | reply to petehermas For the heck of it, here's all the pricing again, taking 12-month prepays into account:
TekSavvy Premium (one line, dry): $37.00 TekSavvy Premium (two lines, dry): $74.00 TekSavvy Unlimited (one line, dry): $47.20 TekSavvy Unlimited (two lines, dry): $84.20 Acanac (one line, dry): $42.00 Acanac (two lines, dry): $84.00
I don't believe TekSavvy has a prepay discount for unlimited, hence why the pricing there didn't go down at all for a single line and didn't go down much for two lines.
TekSavvy remains cheaper if you use 200GB or less on single and double lines. However, Acanac is a fair bit cheaper on a single unlimited line. Both are about the same price for two line unlimited.
Personally, even though the "prepay" option of both companies is not a contract, and both companies will refund the remainder as if you paid the non-discounted rate, I prefer to pay everything month-by-month.
EDIT: Removing the dry loop fee doesn't change much, as they're both similar if you're band A anyhow. You can more or less just subtract $8/mth from any single-line price and $16/mth from any dual-line price and get approximate pricing without dry loops. It doesn't change who is cheaper than who. |

| reply to petehermas Guspaz, your price computation is only good for Quebec... pay only GST 5% to TekSavvy...
Sound like you have to compare apples to apples again or simply just put the Teksavvy price + tax... so people will see it is more expensive/cheaper from where they live... |

Almost everybody posting in this thread, including the original poster and darknestgirl, are in Quebec. That is because the thread is for ISPs in *Montreal*. So Quebec pricing is most relevant for a direct comparison.
I also heard that that TekSavvy customers in Ontario don't pay PST, although I'm not sure if there was ever any formal confirmation of that. If this is the case, then the prices I posted are valid for both QC and ON. |

| reply to petehermas Good evening my friends
Man! Girl!
I just got to my desk and checked in here first.
Wow! Guspaz, you really did your homework. I wasn't expecting as much, especially from only one person.
And darknesgirl, thanks again, you always have all the answers for Acanac.
It's almost like watching TekSavvy against Acanac but not fighting.
I really appreciate your work my friends.
I think it is already a good tool already as it is, may be we should make it a sticky now and still keep working on it.
Only thing though. Should it become a sticky, I leave you full -carte blanche- To edit it and make it yours if you wish.
I'm fairly new in here, I came here to learn more about all these ISPs and I asked lots of questions and I always have had responses thanks to everyone nice people in here. This topic would have been a good place for me to check in the first place and for all the newbees like me, who have been using only Bell and Videotron since the beginning, it gives you a good and pretty clear picture of this new " Tool ".
So, again Big THANKS my friends.
Hey! It's not finish yet, I still have to ask you about my modems. I'll get the specs and I'll be back.
Someone has to keep you working.:)
See You! Pete |

| reply to petehermas Also, COmparing the throttle work-arounds are also very important.
One company is a bit of a pain and not everything can be unthorttle (ie Wow I believe). while the other company unthrottles everything.
Also, one company is having peak time throttle-work around slow dowsn, while the other company isn't having any issue.
So we have pricing.
We should also have anti-throttle comparisons since for many people the quality, reliability and speed of the throttle work-around is equally as important. |
