768 dsl speed - (25 KB/sec download speed)

hello!

1 1/2 year ago i have a 192 dsl speed. After 6 months i upgraded to 384, after 1 year i upgraded to 768 kbps.

I noticed that for all my dsl speeds, the performance is just the same. Even now, my maximum download speed is not more than 25 KB/sec. Is that normal?

If not, what should i do? Do i need to buy a filter for my phone line or something?

Please help me. I already tried some of the tweaks that i found in TweakXp.com but nothing changes. I hope to hear a reply for this soon. thanks

What company? Verizon doesn't offer 192 or 384 download speeds.

 It sounds like the OP is confusing the upload speed with the download speed. Frances, can you go to www.speedtest.net and run a test to a server closest to you? Once the test is done, it will give you a URL for the speed test. Post up that URL link so we can see it.

Otherwise, if your max speed is no more than 25KB/s regardless if you've upgraded the speed or not, it's not normal. Otherwise, post up the speed test for us to see.

I followed you instruction. I ran the speed test and the result is

Download speed - 87 kb/s (first it started from 120kb/s then it just drop down to 87

upload speed - 146 kb/s

I think the results are very odd. Whenever i download something, it is always between 10 KB/sec-25 KB/sec. Is there a ways to lower my upload speed since i never use it anyway, then increase my download speed.

OK. Certainly the line that your ISP is giving you is not right. Have them check what package you're on and if your speed test show it. If not, have your ISP take a look to see what's going on. Otherwise, ideally, it's a good idea to log into your modem and check the line statistics or transceiver stats. It'll show a page with information such as the Margin/SNR, line attenuation, and sync rate. Check on that page before calling your ISP, and if you can, post up your modem's DSL line stats for us. The page should be found in the diagnostics or statistics part of your modem.

I can't see the modem when i open the "phone and modem options" in Control Panel. It is blank. Is there a different way to check the line statistics and transceiver stats?

1 edit		 I've looked up your particular modem and I'm not finding much, but it sounds as though it's just like the modems we're familiar with. IF you open up Command Prompt and type in ipconfig and press Enter, look for the Default Gateway IP address. Once you get that, open up a web browser and type in that address. If it lets you in without a username and password, look for these stats. If not, trying your ISP username and password or admin/admin or admin/password might let you in. If need be, you can try to call your ISP to see if they can help you log into the modem and get your line stats.

Sorry if I'm not much of a help. If the modem were a Westell modem, I'd be able to help. Since I'm working with Google's Scrappings, I'm in a learning mode :P

That's exactly what I'm looking for! Those stats look fine, and you're very close to your exchange (I bet you that you may be able to see it from your home). I'm not sure if anons can do this yet, but if you visit the Tools page on this forum and you run a tweak test, you can see if your PC is set up for the speeds you have. If the tweak test comes up bad and none of the suggested fixes work, register on this site and run a Line Quality Test (make sure your modem isn't going to block incoming ping/anon requests first) and post up the line quality test.

I've done the tweak test and i noticed a slight improvement in my download. I am now trying to do a line quality test.
how can i make sure that my modem isn't going to block incoming ping/anon requests?

But i notice something, my IP address is changing. My IP address in my first test is 121.97.156.105. My 2nd test shows this IP,121.97.157.53.

Is it ok?

Thank you for all the help. I have followed the recommendations from the tweak tester. After that my browsing and download speed increase.
