A guy advertised on Craigslist for part-time help, told people to show up at a location with a safety vest, particle mask, and blue shirt. The location was near a bank, at which he robbed an armored car while wearing a safety vest, particle mask, and blue shirt. He then fled to a creek and floated away in an inner tube. Story and Video

Another guy is paddling 150 miles in a hollowed-out 750-pound pumpkin to raise money for a children's charity.

I'm actually a little amused of the fact that the guy got away with it. In an odd way, the robber sort of earned it with that heist. You have to appreciate the creativity behind that whole thing. |

| There was a lot of planning involved, that's for sure. He apparently pitched off the vest/mask/blue-shirt outfit, and abandoned the tube further downstream and from there I don't know where he went.
I imagine his planning skills will be severely tested as they investigate the robbery, including who placed the Craigslist ad, from where, and who had contact with him. -- relax |

| Plus abandoning the clothes as he ran was probably dumb. He probably left behind forensic evidence like hair, etc
Still, it's a masterful idea. This guy wasn't your typical hold-up robber. -- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini

Am I too Hollywood about this, or do you think he used the inner-tube to fool any bloodhounds? (Is that even true?) I mean it seems that escaping in an inner-tube on that type of creek wouldn't get him too far too fast, in any practical way. He would have had to been picked up rather quickly.

I'm going to follow this story to see what happens. I'm incredibly curious as to what is going to happen. -- "Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy." - George Carlin

This guy wasn't your typical hold-up robber. Yeah, it's hard to tell how far out he planned it. Was it planned only up to the "go down creek in inner tube" point, or well beyond that. Pretty interesting so far. It would be a real grabber of a way to start a movie. -- relax |

| reply to KrK They'll just trace the bill's serials once he starts spending it and have a general location. If he puts some in a bank account, boom, personal information, arrest. --

| reply to threetrolls There's more in the local Monroe paper, including a crime scene photo.

Its like a movie, said Monroe police spokeswoman Debbie Willis last week. I believe this was very well planned. The robber certainly didnt stand out at first glance, said Mitch Ruth, owner of the real estate agency across the street. He only caught Ruths eye as Ruth sat at his desk because he was wearing a particle mask.
The particle mask seemed odd, said Ruth, also a Monroe city councilman. Another second later, I saw he had a weed sprayer. I was chuckling to myself, thinking Im not the only guy who sprays toxic chemicals with shorts on. The man leapt through the underbrush bordering Woods Creek, which joins the Skykomish River, and vanished. We found the mask, and a hat and a blue wig in the alley over here, said Addington.
Although Woods Creek is fairly shallow, ranging from a few inches to five feet deep, the man appears to have made his getaway in an inner tube, which police found a short time later. |

| reply to rawgerz I'm not sure bills serial #'s are generally recorded or tracked. They can be in certain circumstances (IE Police investigations, Ransoms, etc) but I'm doubtful they are recorded by banks in their day to day business. -- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini

| said by rawgerz :That's how they confirmed some money found in a river in Washington state was part of what was stolen by "D.B Cooper" That's because it was ransom money, they recorded the serial numbers before they gave it to him.
... When you know you're about to pay money to a crook, it's common practice for the police to record the serial numbers in advance, in case the criminal does escape with the loot, and then starts to spend it.
A bank doesn't know it's going to get hit in advance, so they don't record the serial numbers (as far as I know, it might have changed recently... they didn't use to though.) -- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini
