@verizon.net | reply to anon_123498 Contact your credit card company and file a complaint...they will probably credit you back at least a pro-rated portion of what you paid. |

| reply to anon_123498 Even their parent company's (Hawk Communications) websites and phone lines are down. Looks like they're history unless something got cut somewhere, but I doubt they would only have one provider into the datacenter.. and hopefully multiple datacenters at that. I'm going to Vonage! |

| reply to anon_123498 It figures they would bug-out on the weekend, thinking they can run back to Pakistan 'under the radar' and avoid paying anyone.
I paid for a whole year back in March - got 7 month's worth. I figure I'm owed $70-$80. But, I have to wait till Monday to report it to the Visa claim's dept. |

| reply to anon_123498 Funny - my first response didn't post, but my second (the one you can see) posted seconds later.
First post content: we're down in South Florida and can find no Joi on the 'net. I can't even reach their call center number in Delray Beach, which is practically a local call. |

| reply to Jupiter customer Some of this is a repeat from another thread, sorry.
My joiphone line died the evening of 10/10.
FYI, Joiphone was simply a re-seller of VoIP, they bought it wholesale and sold it for a few bucks more as retail, that's what most of the home VoIP services are.
Back in the 1990's, I had Hawk Dial-up internet for years, never had a problem, this took my by surprise.
I did find out who provided their "backbone" service, I'm going to call them next week and see if they can recommend a reliable (if there is such a thing anymore) retail VoIP company.
I'm luckier then some, I only had a month left on my pre-paid service. I just spoke with my card's CS dept. If you pre-paid with a major credit card, write a letter to the card's "Cardmember Services" (address usually on the bill somewhere). Include the details, dates charges etc. I've filed 4 disputes over the years and as long as you can provide "accurate" details, they usually give the consumer the benefit of doubt. It's a law, bound by legalities, but it does work. With hawk disappearing, the law is on our side.
Good Luck |

| Yeah - I called the local TV news station. They've been doing a whole 'thing' on the economy, like everyone else.
I followed up with an email and a link to this thread, and got a read receipt.
They might pick it up. Their coverage includes all of Palm Beach county, including Delray Beach.
I followed up and told them I have half a mind to drive the 45 miles to see if they're still onsite stuffing a rented truck full of computer hardware and office furniture.
If you say the service went down late last night, then they probably worked through the night doing just that.
Of course, the money they 'borrowed' to buy all that gear came from a lot of poor, unsuspecting Americans with money in the bank - that the bankers were glad to lend.
When are we going to learn? You can't trust 'those people'...but, when the corporations and our government get together, you start hearing things like "Pakistanis are better than Americans" or "Indians are better than Americans". And they're the only ones getting hired by the big 'multinational' corporations. I'm really sick and tired of getting ripped off in my own country by these little terrorists.
Clearly, they're not 'better' at anything than Americans - including running an internet telephony company. |

| reply to anon_123498 Same here in Bayville NJ, seems like they went out at 2:49 am today including all websites and customer service phone #'s. If figures as I just renewed on 10-03-08 for 2 more years, mistake on my part. Hopefully can get credit card to refund money when I file dispute for the $250 as my renewal was not due until 10-24-08. |

| reply to anon_123498 1. If you signed up in the last 90 days, or even before, all the credit card company -- you maybe able to get relief. Do it today.
2. It does appear from this site and others -- that the talk, and my own experience is they are down.
3. I'd drive over to let you all know, I live in Orlando... I'd just say this about ANY VOIP company, and any company that offers pre-paid plans for cheap... Actually, for any company that wants a pre-pay...
4. My own experience, mixed, but good overall, I signed up about 2 years ago, when the phone was in front of the router, things were good, most issues I think were related to the router. Today, I see their website is down... etc. and notice I'm not the only one who noticed this.
Economic issues?
5. I got 3 numbers, and overall, for $14 a month pre-paid, it was not a bad deal, but if they have failed or had it fail without a notice to customers... that's a poor way to do business. There were enough things, recently being unable to get an email password update, this last week, etc. that I was wondering what happened... however, I'd just say, I started using them because... my home phone was illegally ported from ATT to Sprint, and no one there took ownership either.
6. I think it worked at $14, but the risk was always there. If it ran, as it did, mroe than 6 months, it was a gamble.
7. How far we have come from phones working... but I had to pay 4x as much, and taxes on it to boot.
8. Now, cell phones from a "known" company maybe it for us... don't know how (internet fax/emails) I'll do that part, but with shared minutes for my wife and I -- we may not even have a voip phone... Before this last surprise, I found them responsive, but I never tried to cancel.
9. I'd love to get a feedback from someone in the know, and if I find out anything, I'll post it on my blog, www.clousfamily.com; btw, check out the free music I wrote....
10. I'll have to write a new song, my voip phone is dead... I wish I had gone with Vonage instead... but they were several times more money... with fewer features.
11. I'd not blame a nationality / ethnic group -- our own politics are clearly out of wack with how most people feel about bailing out the bankers today.
12. Guys, I feel for all of you who just signed up -- PLEASE TRY TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK. Joy of credit cards. Even if it's more than 90 days, ask for it anyway.
13. It is possible they had a self-hosted site, and had a crash, etc. and that they were hosting their own stuff. Sure. But as a business this is STUPID. It's not hard to get an F5 Bigip, and have stuff appear on a second site that says, "We are undergoing technical issues." -- that's it! Costs, $2000 a month -- customer confidence, priceless. Let's imagine they haven't folded, but now they have been down for X length of time, and we are commenting about how bad their customer service is... hmmm.
14. I'd love to hear from someone else who finds a good replacement... again, my email is on the website, thanks guys! |
