... and after 2.2 it still won't be perfect and they be slaving on the next release. Your short list of features are a don't care for me, I've got my own list of software enhancements or apps. On the hardware front I think the CPU could use a bump in clock speed, along with a new chipset to reduce power consumption and increase battery life. |

I think Apple releasing yet another iPhone would be a bad call. I'm sure some people were pissed when they found their original iPhones were being replaced by the iPhone 3G, good for people who don't already own one, but can't of a kick in the pants to those who do. Software updates can and already have improved battery life and in terms of a smartphone, this iphone has much better battery life then most my previous phone.
A new chipset would make sense, since the 3G's Infineon chipset was blamed for the reception issues, though bumping up the CPU's clock speed seems like it wouldn't do much good seeing as the iPhone operates smoothly enough in its current state. Adding more power would only lessen the battery life.
As for your "own list" of features and improvements, care to share them? |

Equipment gets hardware updates on a regular basis, most people buy when they need equipment and then never look back otherwise everyone would be in a constant state of being pissed at all major vendors because something faster and cheaper is always coming along. Updating the iPhone will happen once a new chipset comes along that increases battery life.
And yes, I own several iPhones.
I read a statistic this week that more SMS/MMS are higher than # calls. I rarely use SMS/MMS, but understand that majority of people have basic phones and therefore SMS/MMS is heavily used. |

Why would I be pissed off about Apple releasing the iPhone 3G? Seems to me that progress is a good thing, PLUS Apple negotiated with AT&T such that anyone who bought an original iPhone qualified for the upgrade pricing rather than having to pay full retail. |

| Hmm, the whole pricing thing was very confusing to me, but if thats the case and they didnt have to spend FULL retail price (something like over $500) then thats okay. I was only aware of the price I paid as a new AT&T customer and I had heard about other people not being eligible to upgrade and got stuck paying a lot more.
As for the other remarks. This discussion will not turn into a pointless tantrum. This is to discuss new features that may come up with the new firmware. Yes I do purchase computers and other electronic gadgets...Sony claims they're video game consoles have 10 year life cycles, Apples computers are supposed to last a long time as well. I used to be a PC gamer, I bought a new video card AT LEAST once a year, on top of lots and lots of other computer parts, I know what its like.
Anyway.
That Ars Technica article is pretty recent and the beta for 2.2 was just seeded a week or two ago. I've heard people say the new update is expected to be released by the end of this month! Maybe this one will include Push services? To me it seems like a lot of these features were in place but Apple pulled the plug last minute to try and resolve all the other "issues" people were having. So for them to cook up 2.2 and have it released in a month doesn't seem so far fetched. |
