Digital Box With Limited Basic Service

Is it possible to have Comcast's Limited Basic Service and still keep a digital converter for premium subscription services?

For example, I currently have the Digital Starter package and also subscribe to Howard Stern On Demand. I'd like to downgrade the Digital Starter Package to Limited Basic Service but keep Howard Stern On Demand. Is this possible?

Thanks!

No, in most markets you will not be able to do this actually.

It's possible that EVENTUALLY this may be the case....but right now you can.

You can get limited basic, with digital classic, preferred....or any digital package.

That isn't what the OP is asking. He wants to downgrade his Digital Starter package (eliminate it) to limited basic but keep the box w/ Howard Stern.

So if he downgrades to Limited Classic, he cannot still subscribe to to the howard stern for $100 + per year?

Here in Connecticut I have had limited + Classic before, and you can still watch the free onDemand movies and buy pay per view. I don't see how the Stern content would be treated any differently.

But I'll be honest.... policies could have changed since I last had Limited Classic in March of this year. Have they?

Your case is different. You maintained a digital package - the classic package - and therefore had access to OnDemand.

The OP wants to eliminate all digital packages. It's treated differently because the Stern content is only available with a digital package - as an add-on. If you eliminate the digital package from your service, and maintain just limited, then you are no longer able to access add-ons/packages that require the digital package.

Policies haven't changed.

They have a digital basic package in most areas, which includes a box with limited access to OnDemand content, music choice, and the limited basic channels (broadcast locals and possibly shopping and religious). From there you can add on any premium service ala carte. It's not widely advertised, but it is there.

You have heard of limited basic with HD, right? This is the same deal, only with a SD box.

They are actually required to offer this type of package. It is a FCC mandate that makes it so cable companies that offer digital TV services can not require customers to subscribe to higher tiers to receive premiums. For example, they can't make a customer who wants HBO subscribe to digital preferred to get it. Nor can they make a customer subscribe to expanded basic channels to get Howard Tv, since it is considered a premium service.

Yeah. Not advertised, but available.

They call it Limited Classic here in Connecticut. As of a few months ago, box wasn't even included in the price.

In my market
$15.10 limited basic
$4.00 box
$11.00 Digital Classic
= roughly $30 plus tax. Not bad, you do get 5 encore movie channels.

Digital Starter is about $58 bucks here
