[General] Voip Provider with BYOD

I have a pap2tna and looking for a good voip provider to use.
I have used vonage and a few others but vonage doesn't provide BYOD
I'm just looking for a voip service with just a few issues here and there but nothing too major like some i know
Would really appreciate your input in this matter as i want to sign up today or tomorrow and port my number to them as well

thanks

The list doesn't show which is BYOD and which is not and it's a very long list to figure out which byod

is voip.ms a us based voip service?

Do you mean they don't provide you with the SIP credentials when you sign up?

Re: [General] Voip Provider with BYOD

No, BroadVoice stopped allowing callers to call BroadVoice users via SIP URI like 10-digit_telephone_number@broadvoice.com

Of course BroadVoice supplies user with SIP credential for user to enter into her/his own ATA as part of BOYD.

Callcentric sounds good.

Another alternative to look into is Future-Nine.

Him being me?? I apologize if there was some sort of misunderstanding. I notice you joined BBR in July, but our beta trials were in March. Did this happen with a diferent BBR username?

You don't have to make a commitment. Try them and see if you like the service.

Suggestion: don't port your number until you are quite sure you have made a good choice.

Callcentric is very good but one of the more expensive. If you are looking for unlimited inbound and outbound, Callcentric will cost you about $28 a month (19.95 outbound, 5.95 inbound, 2.37 E911 fee). That's high for VOIP IMO.

Voicestick will be right at $19.95 for an unlimited plan with no additional fees and such. They also have been very good for me so far.

$19.95 is about great for unlimited for me with no additional fees like the others keep creeping onto you

Callcentric has a nice web interface showing:

Your ATA's registration
Your E911 address
Last 40 calls (in on 1 page, out on another)
You can add names to incoming caller ID numbers
Other various tools like email settings, etc.

They do charge for an incoming phone number (on the pay as you go plan). Voicestick has free incoming numbers for their pay as you go plan.

If you just want reliable incoming outgoing calls, VoiceStick is my recommendation with callwithus.com coming in second. If you want more "features", callcentric is a good choice.

I haven't used Future9 yet (I will next month) so I can't recommend them at the moment but they seem popular in the forum.

This question keeps coming up again and again. And the answer always depends upon your expected calling usage, how comfortable you are with making changes to your equipment, etc. i.e. How do you plan to use your "phone"?

For example:
How many minutes a month do you call, and where (lower usage may be better off paying by the minute, higher usage probably wants to get on an "unlimited" plan)? Do you get a lot of inbound calling, and if so does the area code of your inbound number matter to you (if inbound calling issues are important to you, it may govern your choice of carrier, but if not than some inbound numbers ( »ipkall.com , as one example) can actually be had for free. Do you know a lot of people with VoIP adapters who you would like to call (of be called from) for "free" (in which case you want access to a company that makes free VoIP to VoIP calls easy and flexible). Etc.

FWIW: If you want a company that has a decent mix of free and paid VoIP services (with full BYOD support), check out »www.callcentric.com. Because of the mix of other providers I have access to, I don't actually use use Callcentric account for much myself (although I do have a small prepaid Callcentric account balance), however I was very impressed with their web site (and the features that web site gives you access to) when I have logged into them. And Callcentric does have the advantage of being a "one stop shop" for getting services (whereas the approach I usually take is harder to setup, as I buy/use VoIP service from multiple companies, in order to get the customized list of price/features I personally prefer).

OTOH if you want to "roll your own" (mixing and matching multiple services), a good choice for the "free" side of things would be »www.voxalot.com (as that service is very connected, and the "basic" service is free, although the fancier "premium" service is $25/year). While VoXaLot won't do everything you need by itself (they don't sell outbound telco calling minutes, for example), the VoXaLot service has a lot of options to make/receive the "free" (toll free, as well as VoIP to VoIP) calls. And VoXaLot also has tools to integrate their service with other (paid for) VoIP services of your choice (allowing you to customize your own service out of the best features of multiple VoIP services).

I agree that voicepulse.com and broadvoice.com both offer solid service. If you want to go cheaper you can get a so called unlimited plan from viatalk.com if you want to get cheaper you can did a number for $35 a year from gizmoproject.com for unlimited incoming and .02 for outgoing or get another provider like voicepulse.com to get it down to .01 or less for USA long distance. If you want to go even cheaper you can get a free Washington based number from ipkall.com and only pay for your outgoing calls. However you need to make calls on it on a regular basis or they will retire your number and give to someone else.

Are you a skinny man like me who doesnt need a buffet?

Oh Stricly speaking from domains...

I use both Voip.MS and CallCentric with my PAP2T. Both have been extremely reliable but I tend to prefer VOIP.MS due to the lower per minute costs and low latency to their New York servers.

I use voip.ms and CallCentric as well. voip.ms is my primary provider due to CallCentric's lack of CNAM.

I just started the process of porting my number from Vonage (due to the price increase) to voip.ms ... we'll see how that goes.

I use these two providers as my main ones, as well.

I understand that CC is working on a CNAM solution now.

Interesting thing is, CNAM is getting less and less useful. Even on my Verizon business landline, the CNAM on half of the incoming calls just says "Cellphone NJ" or "Private Name" (the latter is often a VoIP caller).

So when my wife calls me on her cell, I just see "Cellphone NJ" on the CNAM.

Because of this, there is actually an advantage to CallCentric's current system where you can specify the CNAM name associated with a particular number. Thus on my CC line, I can have my wife's name show up instead of "Cellphone". And if Joe Hawkins from XYZ Company calls me, I can have Joe Hawkins show up instead of XYZ, if I prefer.

Re: [General] Voip Provider with BYOD

I used viatalk for a while and was good but started getting all these wierd fees even though i had a rep add all the fees and charge my card only one time so i could keep track of them
Had some oversease calls not going through but i got charged and a rep told me i have to be charged regardless of it not going through because they get charged.Found that confusing so i didnt bother arguing with her at all, just adviced myself rather
Voip.ms was ok with local calls but they always spoof your calls and i tried to let them know about it ,they tell you they'll look into it and never get back to you
Their international calls have horrible call quality and the premium service is high,i'd give viatalk good rating if the call does go through to be smoooth
Now i'm giving future nine a try and i've read a lot about them so i hope not to run into too many problems with them

The port from Vonage to voip.ms completed today. It went smoothly and took 3 weeks. Voip.ms provided status along the way.

There isn't a phone number listed for future nine to call them on,only email i think
I really caannot figure out the pricing structure though
I wanted a monthly flat rate like the viatalk 500mins plan sort of thing so i could pay for a year or 2 but cannot call them
i tried voip.ms but i don't think i wanna stay with them, that's just me though so hard feelings

Re: [General] Voip Provider with BYOD

Hello.

We do not currently offer phone support. We'll be happy to answer your questions via email though - just use the "contact" link inside the web console after you sign up for an account. (signing up is free and has no obligation)

To see our plans/pricing:
Future Nine VoIP Plans

We do have a couple of yearly plans:
1. Bare Essentials yearly - $75 - free incoming, 250 minutes outgoing. Overage is 1 cent/minute.
2. America Free yearly - $135 - free incoming and outgoing (residential limits apply)

You might also want to take a look at our How-To.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Re: [General] Voip Provider with BYOD

Just remember that some countries are harder to connect than others. Europe etc. you're almost never going to have a problem with - however Africa for example is a hard location for VoIP. With Future Nine, if you have a problem connecting - just switch routes by prefixing the number with 02(grey),03(white, or 04(premium). Please see an explanation of our grey, white, and premium routes.

This isn't a cure-all and some locations are hard even with the premium route - but overall the idea is to have you control the quality of your calls.

VoIP in a lot of countries is illegal. The country's telephone system is run by one carrier that is owned by the government. They want to keep competition out and international rates high. VoIP circumvents this by passing the calls through the internet to be terminated locally and appear like a local call. This is legal in the US - but may not be legal in other countries. In such a scenario the terminating partner is usually a very small company, who's basically doing something that might be illegal in their own country. Such companies are not always reliable.

As someone who has subscribed (and used) at one time or another scores of current and now defunct VoIP providers ... and given your desire to use a PAP2T-NA (of which I have many in service at the moment) ... and not knowing whether you have high, moderate or low monthly usage (as DracoFelis so cleverly posited) ...

I would point to CallCentric, especially if your not-to-high call volume permits you to take advantage of their PAYG plan. My reasoning is expounded upon in my BBR Review. (Just click on CallCentric in the left column, under my "N9MD" monicker.)

As to the lack of telephone support with CC, my review (and many prior posts) show why some of us prefer on-line Trouble Ticket contacts (especially with CC's rapid responses) ... because rather than getting useless scripted "suggestions" from an uninformed Level 1 CSR, a written request can be dispatched to higher tiered individuals who actually have the answers at their fingertips .. so a single response within a few hours (or the following morning for late night trouble ticket submissions) will more often than not resolve any problem quickly.
