VoIP in a lot of countries is illegal. The country's telephone system is run by one carrier that is owned by the government. They want to keep competition out and international rates high. VoIP circumvents this by passing the calls through the internet to be terminated locally and appear like a local call. This is legal in the US - but may not be legal in other countries. In such a scenario the terminating partner is usually a very small company, who's basically doing something that might be illegal in their own country. Such companies are not always reliable. :)

With Future Nine, if you have a problem connecting - just switch routes by prefixing the number with 02(grey),03(white, or 04(premium). This question keeps coming up again and again. And the answer always depends upon your expected calling usage, how comfortable you are with making changes to your equipment, etc. i.e. How do you plan to use your "phone"?

How many minutes a month do you call, and where (lower usage may be better off paying by the minute, higher usage probably wants to get on an "unlimited" plan)? Do you get a lot of inbound calling, and if so does the area code of your inbound number matter to you (if inbound calling issues are important to you, it may govern your choice of carrier, but if not than some inbound numbers ( »ipkall.com , as one example) can actually be had for free. FWIW: If you want a company that has a decent mix of free and paid VoIP services (with full BYOD support), check out »www.callcentric.com. Because of the mix of other providers I have access to, I don't actually use use Callcentric account for much myself (although I do have a small prepaid Callcentric account balance), however I was very impressed with their web site (and the features that web site gives you access to) when I have logged into them. And Callcentric does have the advantage of being a "one stop shop" for getting services (whereas the approach I usually take is harder to setup, as I buy/use VoIP service from multiple companies, in order to get the customized list of price/features I personally prefer).

OTOH if you want to "roll your own" (mixing and matching multiple services), a good choice for the "free" side of things would be »www.voxalot.com (as that service is very connected, and the "basic" service is free, although the fancier "premium" service is $25/year). While VoXaLot won't do everything you need by itself (they don't sell outbound telco calling minutes, for example), the VoXaLot service has a lot of options to make/receive the "free" (toll free, as well as VoIP to VoIP) calls. I have used vonage and a few others but vonage doesn't provide BYOD
I'm just looking for a voip service with just a few issues here and there but nothing too major like some i know
Would really appreciate your input in this matter as i want to sign up today or tomorrow and port my number to them as well
