Re: Just ordered Direct-TV question local HD channels........

Actually, you will like receiving them OTA (with an AM-21) better as opposed to off the satellite, anyway. OTA gives you all of the subchannels (as long as they are in D's database) and you don't have to worry about them going out in severe weather.

This should have come up at checkout if you performed an on-line order. An AM21 costs $50 and allows you to incorporate broadcast local stations into your HR2x DirecTV DVR.

If your stations are available over an antenna, this shouldn't be much of a problem. You may be able to convince a representative at DirecTV to waive the $50 fee for the AM21 by claiming there wasn't sufficient information about this when you ordered.

An AM21 will have to be connected to an antenna and then to your HR21 or HR22. You will then be presented with local HD stations as if they were part of the DirecTV line up, and will be able to record programs and schedule as if you got them from satellite.

Your alternative is to seek a waiver, and hope to get it. With some networks it is easier than others. Of late it is harder to do than in years past.

Good luck!

Yeah and that distant network criteria has gotten REAL STRICT

But because Key west was served by translators from MIAMI.... but not for ten years now, and also all MIAMI channels on cable.... though 160 miles distant and NO way to recieve off air even with a 50 ft tower... we are deemed to be MIAMI market now... and briefly had West Coast distant locals, being a night person I liked and few PT conflicts... and football runover into 60 Min was NEVER an issue.

But no... the Miami stations forced DISH to deny me that alternative even though there was NO WAY I could receive them off air.

And now I have the equally foreign MIAMI stations instead of LA, at a time I prefered. Not like in KW I will be patronizing ANY loca/ non net wide advertiser on the MIAMI stations.... especially with current gas prices, we like the Keys and DREAD going to gangland fa$hion adicted MIAMI..

But as a start DNS channels are not local they are Los Angles or New York depending on which area you live.

Not all local stations have agreed to let DTV carry there programming and if yours have not then you will need an antenna and probably the AM21 depending on which tv receiver that you have.

DTV is telling me we cannot get any in our area with them. We ordered the plus hd dvr package. Will be installed on the 15th. I am told I need a AM21? Along with a antenna? Now I went to there website and put my info in. That is what came up. What does all that mean? Can I get hd channels? Do I need to do the DNS waiver to get them?
