Some of the best unkown software?

Please try to write a little description so that we all can benefit.

Here's my list:

-Volumouse-easily control the volume by scrolling up/down on the taskbar.
-roboform-the easiest way to fill out online form and logins.
-firefox adblock plus + the filter found on this site-bye bye ads.
-rocketdock-a cool dock
-Findexer-*best kept secret- the best finder for XP.

Well this Thread certainly looks lonely and empty. So I'll make a post so as you know someone read it.
By the programs you listed you don't give an idea if there is a particular software you are interested in or just everything in general.
Many of the programs I have in use are "un-knowns" to the average computer user. Some oldies and some newbees.
Well good luck. Be patient you may still get posters.

Thanks for the StudioPro link.

Free FLV to AVI converter
It doesn't install itself on your computer
Download it, unzip it, then run it from its folder.

Freebie

Been a long while since I've posted this one
Convert & Open
No more copy and pasting of incorrect/invalid URLs. Convert & Open automatically repairs bad links such as h**p, f*p, htp:site.com, and converts back slashes to forward. Removes blank spaces, link breaks, tabs and bad characters. Also restores missing slashes and repairs bad emails. Win95/98/Me/Win2K/XP
»camtech2000.net/Pages/Useful.html
(May work with Vista- it is a real oldie so doesn't say but my guess is that it should work).

What it really is... is a shell command line addition to IE browser.
Allows me to bypass having to edit or copy/paste links on web pages, by opening them in a new window and correcting them as nesessary.
From a deliberate mis-post like HXXP: to someone who just types a site like dslreports.com
A quick and easy way to get potential links active and go to them, by just highlighting - r-clicking -and choosing Convert and Open.

Couple more in a post from last Feb

Another Freebie

And another one that someone here pointed me to (can't remember who but I thank you again, use it all the time)

File menu tools
»www.lopesoft.com/en/
Screenshot
»www.lopesoft.com/en/fmtools/scre···ools.jpg

The one I use all the time is Delete and No move to recycle bin. Not earth-shattering, just saves me holding the shift key down. I use recycle bin a little differently than most.
Use it as a holding area to make sure things I'm deleting aren't really necessary. After they are "gone" a month or so, and my computer is ok, then I go to the bin and really delete them.
What this means is that I directly delete a lot of things (bypassing the bin) like a zip/rar file that I have sucessfully unpacked. If I just delete it, it goes to the recycle bin and not only continues to take up HD space, but also clutters the list of things I'm not sure of totally deleting.

Might want to look at the screenshot link, you could find explorer shell commands that you will find handy.

Re: Some of the best unkown software?

Not exactly "unknown", but here's a couple.

Tray It!
Allows you to minimize an application(s) you may typically keep running on your PC all day long to an icon in the System Tray to save Taskbar space. TrayIt! runs on Windows 95/98/Me, NT/2000/XP and does not require any installation.

FastStone Capture 5.3(Last Freeware version)
Two main features I like in FastStone Screen Capture are the scrolling (vertical & horizontal) screen capture, and its annotation tools (text & graphics). The the scrolling screen capture can capture the contents of most dialog/setting boxes; e.g., capture of IE (Restricted sites) settings:

Comes in handy to keep copy of an apps settings, share settings with someone, or send to app's tech support.

FYI: Source for reviews/links for various Freeware at Gizmo's Best-ever Freeware.

I've used Convert for several years - very handy little program.

I really like Pixie (»www.nattyware.com/pixie.html).

I use it to get RGB data from scanned LP covers as I digitize them so I can get a good color match on CD labels. It opens a small (about an inch square) window and does not get in the way.

GK

No Grail, internet sweeper is not better than CCleaner, however, it does work well with ccleaner, oh, yes internet sweeper does appear to "catch" and clean some "tracks" that ccleaner or mru-blaster misses. If you run mru-blaster then run internet sweeper....you will see how much more interney sweeper "catches".
If you decide to give internet sweeper a try there are a couple of things you need to know.....DON'T ENABLE "hidden files".....obviously cleaning those could possibly harm your system......also, the "close" botton does not work properly..never has....to close....minimize it to they tray then "exit".
I have employed internet sweeper since the day it came out...years ago.....back in the day it was "the" tool to own.......kindda like ccleaner is today. The vendor use to "hang-out: at wilders back then....his wife had a child so he needed money and sold internet sweeper with an agreement that internet sweeper itself would remain freeware forever.........after the sale internet sweeper underwent changes and became shareware under another name.....take a real good look at it an see if you can guess which program it became.

Here you go kiddies....last freeware versions...

now remember that these are older versions an some may not work properly under XP.....as for vista..hell microsoft does not even know what does or does not work with vista.

some of the programs at the above link that are truely worthwhile:

ACE Money : this IS NOT A LIMITED VERSION....it has many of the same features that the shareware version sold today has.....a great little program worth the install...and its very small....great for tracking finanicial output....and I think you can Password restrict it as well.

2Flayer: a real fine screensaver maker....I still use it at times....around the holidays make your own screen savers. remember to "clear" the examples before making you "saver". Oh, it makes "EXE's....install....so you can give your Saver to others....a christmas gift of the kids perhaps for Nanna.

An while you are at the site...follow the Bread Crumbs down the yellow brick road to the other Sites listed...who knows what you may fine.
