| plz help with my internet ping.
i know this has probably been asked over a thousand times on these forums. but i have to get another answer on the situation. i'm new to these forums. so an introduction is in order.
My name is Brendan, i live in aus and i'm currently connected to the internet through telstra's 8 meg adsl plan.
i live reasonably far from the exchange. so i can understand why it connects at 3200kbps down and 192 up.
browsing is generally fine. but gaming is horrible.
my ping is generally 85 plus. on servers i should be getting decent 35-40 ms ping.
playing gamearena servers is terrible. my ping sky rockets up to the 110-120's
i do a tracert and things go bad. so i'm thinking maybe this is the reason.
i get a 1 ms on the hop to the router. then things spiral. 50ms + for every other hop. and when tracert to www.bigpond.com
the last couple of hops end in tears. 198 -210 ms hops to bigpond.
i did a speedtest.net test to the nearest server in Brisbane and the ping is 160. can someone help me?
also the internet dsl channel is interleave. not set to fast.
Bigpond tech support is hopeless. if i ask any question they brush me to gamearena support... and it's not just for game arena.
a friend of mine lives not 20kms away on a 1.5 conn and he is getting 40 ms ping on GA servers and he isn't even with telstra. it's so frustrating. plz help |
