Already there

They have already been selling Uverse in Walmart and Circuit City for over a month...they are just announcing it now. It's not doing too well though. As a company...what can they really boast? Price is their slight advantage over the incumbent cable companies, but it's not enough to sway as many customers as they think.

As AT&T puts it, "It's easy to beat cable"

AT&T offers a fairly large HD lineup (45+), with a ton more supposedly being added by year end (rumor is, first week in November). Time Warner LA had a pretty pathetic HD lineup. They promised 9 more by mid-year, but missed that target. We finally got them this month, and after all that waiting, the lineup is still nowhere close to what U-verse has.

U-verse also has the multi-room HD DVR that records 4 channels at once, which we love.

DirecTV is still the better choice for HD lovers, but if you want a DVR and multiple rooms, there's equipment to buy, and long term contracts to sign.

Time Warner is still struggling to get 15/2 up in Los Angeles. They seem to have more areas upgraded now, but a lot of LA is still 10/1, which U-verse beats with 10/1.5.

I think Time Warner will eventually have the better product, but its taking them a long time to get their act together. U-verse is getting improvements at a much brisker pace.

I'll wait and see...
Uverse still doesn't have a 'complete' triple play yet, as they don't have Uverse Voice option. They 'are' selling a comparable package to cable:

Uverse 30/30/30 = $90 (+tax/fees)
- U-100 - 1 STB
- Internet - 3Mbps/1Mbps
- Uverse Voice (not available in the Los Angeles area )

TWC 'All the Best' = $89.99 (+tax/fees)
- Digital Choice 1 STB
- Analog (on any/all other TVs)
- 6Mbps/512kbps
- TWC VoIP

Since there's no Uverse Voice here ... I'd have to purchase Vonage or T-Mobile VoIP, or pay an extra $30/month for POTS (I was paying $57-$58/month for POTS on combined billing)

Also, its a mixed bag when you're attempting to get something w/o TV service (when TWC 1 year promo expires).

- ADSL $35/month for 3Mbps / 512kbps standalone
- Uverse Internet 10/1.5 is the only package available w/o TV service, or you have to install/remove service
- Purchase Indie VoIP.

I had DirecTV and didn't have to pay for boxes or installation.
I might even eBay my old boxes and dish.
