Question: Do I have to update my IP in the setup if it changes?
During the trial period, I think it showed a long period of no connection (hours) when really my modem had reset and connected right away with a different IP. |

Yes you have to either update your IP in the monitor or run a dynamic DNS client that will take care of the IP changes for you. |
