| Service Charge For Activation?
I recently moved to a new apartment and transferred my Cox service. Since the new apt had Cox already they told me they could do it all electronically. The STB apparently didn't like the transfer so they sent a tech out. Then he told me I would be charge $10/outlet for activation.
I don't understand why it would be activated if there was service there previously. Is this activation charge a standard thing? |

| reply to ccc1005 When you get services installed in a new apt, the first outlet is included in your install (then if you get another STB, the outlet is included with the install fee).
Now if you did Self Install at your new apt and didn;t have a tech come out to install your services, then its a failed self install (fees can be found on your local site or Tech Support for your system).
Now the $10 fee is to activate a line that is already installed and hasn;t be connected to the demark/splitter. Sounds like you might have connected the box to the wrong outlet (a outlet not connected or a outlet going to a different provider). |

2 edits | I was using the same equipment and staying within the same apartment complex just a different building. I was on the phone with tech support for an hour with them constantly resetting the STB to no avail. Then they told me they needed to send a tech. The tech then said he would have to activate the outlets...
My cable modem was working fine however while they kept trying to reset the STB so the service itself was active and working before the tech came out, it was just the STB that had issues. |

Well they're not going to leave active service on in the apt. cox doesn't know when the next person is moving in. the fee[in arizona] to do these filter things is $9.95 -- When I gez aju zavateh na nalechoo more new yonooz tonigh molinigh - Ken Lee |

When I moved to my new appartment I had no problems transferring my service. | I had called well ahead of time so they knew I would have service and apparently the previous residents had active service. The person on the phone when I did the transfer said it would all be done electronically. This is why I am confused...
They only reason they had to send someone out is because my cable box wasn't working. The other outlets were active (not using the digital box on those). |

What did they have to do to resolve your box problem? |

| reply to Fubar said by Fubar :What did they have to do to resolve your box problem? Not sure exactly, the tech made it seem like all I had to do was keep it plugged in and it would have come up after a bit. I had hooked it straight into the TV to get at least basic service since I had assumed from the phone call that the box was dead.
Thanks for the info everyone. |
