nycityny : T-Mobile specifically allows existing customers who have fulfilled their contract to purchase phones at new customer prices by signing a new contract. You don't have to play games and leave or threaten to leave. You can even purchase the phone on the T-Mobile website (after signing in with your existing account) by clicking the link that says "Upgrade your phone". The pricing they offer is comparable to that given to new customers if your contract is close to expiring or has expired.

GhostDoggy : T=Mobile does not allow number portability from within their company. They will only port non-TMo numbers into TMo. My first two-year contract had expired and I took up the Costco partner deal of a pair of Razr phones for new activations.

The original account was in the wife's name, but the current contract in mine. I did this because no TMo dealer or even TMo themselves would sell me a new phone after the display died on my old phone. Crazy, but this was 26 months ago.

I am not without a contract again and looking new deals. Costco, TMo and Amazon are pretty much completely non-correlating and its keeping me from moving forward.

anon : How is it possible to take advantage of the new activation thing which allows you to get new phones at a cheap price and still be able to keep your old number? I currently have my service with T-mobile and the contract has finish its 2 years. Anyway, I was told by one of those cellphone kiosk guy @ costco that we are able to keep our old numbers by going through verizon first, cancel the service after 3 days, go back to t-mobile, keep our new phones, and our old numbers. But I'm wondering how is that possible since Verizon and T-mobile uses a different service (CDMA & GSM). I haven't asked him that question yet, but does anyone know the answer to this?
