On a Sony KV27S26 how do I safely disconnect the high voltage line going to the picture tube so that I can remove the circuit board for repair? Does anyone know where the Vertical Amplifier or Vertical IC is located? |

| This is going to sound nasty , so let me apologize in advance . If you have to ask , you should really reconsider trying it . See , I told you it would sound nasty .
The thing is , the CRT , and other components in the HV section , can hold a lethal charge for quite a while . Not just for hours but for days
There are safe ways to bleed of the charge , but if you make the slightest mistake , well it could be quite a shocking situation . Would really be best to leave it to a pro .

1 edit | Oh c'mon, they taught us how to do it in high school.
Make sure the TV is plugged to a properly grounded outlet, but turned off. Stick a large flat bladed screwdriver under the suction cup on the tube. While the tip of the screwdriver is touching the metal clip under the suction cup touch another part of the screwdriver to the metal internal frame of the television. If you do it correctly you'll draw an arc.
Now unplug the television, reach under the suction cup with a pair of needle nose pliers and squeeze the metal clip closed and it should pop right off. |

| It's better to attach the screwdriver to a ground through a high-wattage megaohm resistor before sticking it under the suction cup. Just letting it arc is asking to damage something else.
And it has to be a screwdriver with an insulated handle! |
