I wonder if the scale the GSMA will come into play on this (ie. attempt to strong arm the industry). I think in the 'cost' arena, WiMAX/WiFi will be the lower cost, at least until the mobile industry finds a way to separate mobile telecom from mobile consumer electronics. The only advantage for LTE/HSPA is the highly controlled (and already purchased in many countries) spectrum. WiMAX's advantage is that it can use just about any spectrum, which is also its scalability issue (outside of the U.S. at least). I do think WiMAX will do better in the embedded/consumer devices, while AT&T (and possibly others) will do well in the 'walled garden' mobile telecom. -- Canada = Hollywood North |
