| Bell Canada deal results in job creation
MONCTON - The ICT Group is set to add 550 new employees at its call centres in Saint John, Riverview and Miramichi.
The expansion is the result of a new deal with Bell Canada.
The provincial government is providing financial support to the ICT Group to help with employee training and capital costs associated with its expansion, said a government source.
The amount of government assistance was not disclosed.

@teksavvy.com | reply to CanadianIron At this point in time with the Canadian economy falling into recession (technically we are already in recession but the bank of Canada lied about the 2nd quarter GDP) or depression Bell should be doing wholesale layoffs not hiring. |

| What kind of perverse logic is that?
Any company that is hiring at a time like this means that it is ABLE and NEEDS to hire. The state of the economy does unfortunately mean those jobs are fragile, but for at least some people they are getting employment for at least a while, which is good. If they have to lay off later, then so be it.
If it comes as a part of bringing jobs back to Canada, then that too is good. |

@rogers.com | word is the call centre in oshawa(seems not only auto pants close in oshawa) is closing and the jobs moving out to the heavily subsidized(call center jobs) east coast |

andyb Premium join:2003-05-29 SW Ontario | reply to sbrook There is no word on where these jobs are coming from.Could be closures elewhere in Canada or from India.I'd say from here in Canada.Bell doesn't listen to consumers so removing India wouldn't be on the table.
Hope I'm wrong but doubt it. |

Not surprising. Even as little as they pay their employees there (new hires are contractors only, $9.50/hr, no benefits) they still can't compete with India. Or the Philippines, when they lost the Epson account. |

| reply to CanadianIron So the bottom line.
Do you think this means an improvement in quality support?
2 years ago when I had a moncton call centre drone, this is what I was told to find my line problem (which was going on for over a month)
"find your CO, find a bell employee there. Offer them a few bux to come see the problem you have on your outside lines".
This was Moncton.
They are no F'n better than india.
If you think training or quality will improve you are dead wrong.
oshawa and moncton training and quality is no better than india.
Bell may as well leave the jobs in India. |

Given the speed and frequency at which companies like to change contracted work - the Government would do better to randomly select 600 people and give them the money. -- ...A bitter ray of sunshine |

| reply to Bell_Abused If hiring 500 new people in Moncton means 500 less calls from India then I am all for it.
There will be a learning curve with the new agents , but I think majority of people will be thrilled about this.
I beleive this is smart move on Bells part. |

It will not be a real Bell call center per say, but cheap job at $9 - $10 done by subcontractor. Bell is already doing this in N.B. for the french side of the call center. |

| reply to CanadianIron Well there is so much fraudulent sales from India you would not believe it. There is once in a while people from some Canadian call center that sale without consent but almost all of them are from Indian call center. They get around 10 cents a sale and that is a lot for them.
They make many sales a day and they get close to a 1$ just in sales per day if not more. They switch of company if they can make only one cent more per hour so just imagine what they can do with only 1$, they get about 2-3$ a day just for the job.
So basically what append is they sale a lot even without the consent of the clients!? They tell all sort of lies to get the sales and many time the clients are not even aware of the product but find out very later on that they are charged for something they don't even know anything about.
One of my friend work there and he says that's unbelievable how many fraudulent sale there is, anything to get a sale, there is about in estimation around 50-100 calls a day that get to his department that are basically to complain about fraudulent sales.
Basically I would believe that is to bring the job back to Canadian because I would imagine at that rate it might damage the image of Bell and with the new management it seam that they want to get rid of Indian call center because of that. It's no good if they get sued left and right and they gain less even though they pay them next to nothing.
Though my friend also heard by one of his coworker that they have renewed the contract with the Indian call center so he does not think that will affect those center. He think probably the Ottawa call center will get ditch in December and the job will be sent to Moncton which the wage is lower.
One thing though is if they continue to sent Canadian job to oversea the economic crisis can only get worse. Who gonna buy their product if every darn company do the same thing!? |

| Bell is a cash cow, that has to produce milk every quarter, for the mutual fund owners, stockholders and banks. That's what it's all about.
Until people understand that, (Bell Customers), they will be in the dark on why Bell treats them as garbage. |

The level of fraudulant sales before it was all shipped off to india was the same.
Poeple just like to blame India. But it was no different and this call centre will be no different. |

Employment Province will extend forgivable loan of $8,000 per job
DERWIN GOWAN TELEGRAPH-JOURNAL
Business New Brunswick will extend forgivable loans of $8,000 each for up to 550 new jobs at ICT's three contact centres in the province.
ICT, based in Newtown, Pa., has already filled about 300 of the new positions in Riverview, Miramichi and Saint John to provide customer care for Bell Mobility clients across Canada, officials with both companies and Business New Brunswick said on Thursday. Bell and ICT will use the money to recruit and train employees and offset capital costs associated with the project.

| Why do taxpayers have to pay $8,000 per person to the employer, to create jobs ? That's why taxes are so high ... wasted taxpayer money.
Canadians would be better off with tarrifs so manufacturering jobs could be created, and produce Canadian made goods. |
