| [Satellite] Do Dish Network and Vonage play together ok?
To be more specific: I have Dish Network, which requires a phone line connection so that it can pull programming data, etc. I'm thinking of switching my DSL and phone service (currently Earthlink DSL+Voice) to ATT DSL Direst (doesn't require phone service from ATT which is a plus for me) and getting Vonage for phone.
I just want to make sure that this would work with the DishNetwork DVR. |

| From there own web site it looks like they use the E-net port.
Internet-connected ViP 622 and ViP722 receivers can download movies to the hard drive through the receiver’s Ethernet connection. This IP-based Video on Demand (IP-VOD) service provides an extensive collection of pay-per-view titles, both new releases and past favorites.
Keeping your receiver connected to a phone or high-speed Internet line (if the receiver has an Ethernet port) is the best way to get the most out of your TV. When connected you can order pay-per-view, play games, check the weather instantly and pay your bill. Connecting also lets us talk to your system to make sure everything is running smoothly.
Your installer probably connected your receiver to a line. If not, get hooked up now to a phone line using the dual connection jack (included in your original packaging). If you have a ViP series receiver and a high-speed Internet connection, plug the Internet (Ethernet) cord into the port on the back of your receiver and gain access to DishONLINE. DishONLINE allows you to use your receiver’s Ethernet connection to download movies and TV programs. |

| reply to Mr_Bungle I never had problems with my Dish Network receiver and Vonage when I used to have Vonage. I did have to setup my Dish Network receiver to dial a code first (I think it was *99) before it dialed the phone number, though.
If your receiver is one of the ViP series receivers it should have an ethernet port on the back that you can just plug into the internet. If you do that you don't need the phone line to avoid the monthly fee, however you won't be able to do all the things that you can do with the phone line like order PPV, check your bill, etc. If you don't do any of that "extra" stuff and all your interested in is avoiding the monthly "phone home" fee, then the ethernet will work just fine for you. |

| Thanks for the feedback. I don't have the VIP series receiver--I have the DVR 625 so just a phone connection, no ethernet. I couldn't think of any logical reason that it wouldn't work with vonage, but just wanted to make sure--knowing at least someone out there is doing it successfully puts my mind at ease. |
