Three strikes?

Whatever happened to three strikes and your out rule?
I think stupidity like this needs to be punished by the government via them holding Cox and Time Warner's hands for awhile (not just the whole cable industry)....
Or go in with electroshock and shock all the CEO's until they are competent enough to run a company.

I don't know about you guys, but if I was running a muilt-billion (or million, who knows) I would do everything in my power to make sure we were playing nice with uncle sam and not try to piss him off....and make the customers happy, but that is an issue that seems to exist in every company.

Unfortunately the way corporate america works is that you must do what ever you can to make the most money for your stock holders. Whether or not it is in your customers best interest, ethical, or even legal is an after thought. And of course you will have the corporate stock huggers coming here supporting just that claim. Because just like the CEO who can't see past his next bonus, they can't buy a stock for long term value and see that a sacrifice of profits now will more than likely mean more profits in the long run.

It's a ME ME ME, NOW NOW NOW society.

It is not the cable company's fault that some very few customers decide to use an outdated technology. Would it be the car manufactures fault if you went out and bought a hydrogen fuel car, and you found out that you could not buy the fuel anywhere for a fill up? Technology is always moving forward and things get outdated in this business very quickly. I seem to have to upgrade my pc every 6 months to keep it running top notch. Do I file a lawsuit against the software developers because i need more processing power to use their software? No I don't, that would be silly.

Maybe you forgot about the law that mandates Cablecards and their use.

You should at least attempt to have a basic grasp of the law involved before making a comment like this. Read about the telecommunications act of 1996 and the FCC rules implementing it. Or at least read the linked PDFs.

Consumers are equally as greedy. They want more channels, more bandwidth, and less caps for less money. Neither side will ever find a happy medium.

1996, Exactly my point. This is what, 2008? Old technology dies. Maybe we should file a law suite in February when they take our precious analog signals off the airways.

Its always nice to back the government and laws. They are doing such a wonderful job with our economy. I tried to get a car loan and got denied. I have perfect credit. I guess your right. This government law for cablecards must be the way to go. Im sorry, your 100 percent correct.

I have a credit score of over 600. Never missed a mortgage payment. Have 0 credit card dept. The banks are scared to lend money out now. But i guess this is just a side effect of good government.

Then tell people stop complaining that they only have 20 HD channels. People want everything and do not want to give up anything to get it. Its a no win situation. There is just not enough bandwidth to do it. People bitch that they want 100mbps internet in the same time bitching about the cable company in how they are trying to make that happen.

600 is pretty low considering 850 is the max. Mine was 790 the last time i checked. Anything under the mid 700s is not typically going to be offered the best rates.

Yeah your right, my credit is absolutely horrible. I only have a house and 3 cars. My credit was so good that I got a 3.9 intrest rate on my mortgage. The car loans are all paid for. I guess they must think I dont pay my bills.

You should check your credit report. It sounds like something is on there that shouldn't be. Otherwise it seems like it should be in the upper 700's.
I check mine periodically to make sure nothing shows up that is erroneous. Years ago I had problems where info on my credit report was not mine. And even once i got it straightened out, occasionally something will pop up that is someone else's info.
At least now it's much easier and faster to get things straightened out than it was 18 years ago.

Actually the credit market crisis is a private company matter - it happened because government regulations were loosened on those companies. Under Clinton they loosened the requirements for loan companies. He wanted people with lower credit to be able to get homes. The companies were all for it because it let them make their own decisions instead of government regulations, and it led to a great "on paper" profit. The resulting crisis because, hey guess what, those with poor credit apparently couldn't be trusted to pay back their loans, and the resulting high default rates have caused banks to fail and those that are surviving are afraid to loan money to anybody.

You want to go by the economy when it comes to deciding things - well, there you go - the perfect reason to NOT reduce regulations and rules on cable companies; look what it did to the finance industry when they were given the green light to do what they wanted.

600 is not perfect credit. 700+ is better. 850 is perfect credit, and only a few people have that. If you had a FICO score of 700+ then you would have gotten the car loan.

CLEARLY you aren't paying attention then!

People with 700 credit scores are being turned down BECAUSE THERE IS NO MONEY TO LEND! Some lenders have raised the bar even higher on loans. It's turned into a lender's market..

I'm not even going to explain further.. your comment was ignorant to the world going on around you.

My credit score is above 700 and I wasn't given a loan from 3 of 4 lenders when I went to trade in a buy a new car a week ago.

They are not looking at the score only these days.. they're looking at EVERYTHING.

They are being a lot bitchier regarding debt-to-income, but beyond that, lending standards haven't gotten much worse for consumers yet. Toyota's current 0% offer is available all the way down to 650 if your DTI isn't out of whack.

Of course, most people owe way more money than they ought to (me included..although mine is almost entirely sub-inflation fixed rate, not that a lender would care about that part..I'd be stupid to pay it off now)
