[XP Home] Why is there a green check mark on my Word, Excel ico

My desktop icons for Word, Excel, Notepad suddenly have a check mark in a green circle(!). They've never looked like this before.
One of the Word docs has a ! in a red circle.

I can open, update all of these with no problem.

When I create a new Word, Excel or Notepad doc, it now has a ! in a red circle.

I noticed this after I ran the XoftSpySE v4.33 anti-spyware. But I've been running this for 5 months without the icons changing.

Any ideas?

Have you rebooted? (My old box had things like this happen which would be cleared up on a reboot.)

Yes, I've rebooted several times.
The checkmark and exclamation mark are still on the icons.

Just out of curiosity, do you use Mozy remote backup software? I believe they pushed out an update a few days ago and turned the option for the indicators on files back on -- those may be the green check marks you've started seeing. I noticed them too a few days ago.

If you go into Mozy's configuration, you can check the box to disable icon overlays in Explorer and remove them.

Damon85, you're right!

I use MozyHome. I went to the Options and checked "Disable icon overlays in Windows Explorer" and the checkmarks, exclamation points disappeared.

Thanks for the fix!

Thanks for the help. I had this "problem" too, and this solved it instantly. My thanks!

I'm having the same issue with the green check marks and do not use Mozy. I did a Norton Back up but can't seem to find anything in my settings to disable.

Any suggestions.

If you are using Norton 360, click Settings in the Norton 360 main window, disabling the Backup Status Indicators check box and clicking Close.
