said by gordonw :. .. . You mentioned you have multiple computers connected to the router. Are they all running at the same time, and are you doing any peer to peer? You might be running into the limitations of the Verizon branded router. If you do a search, you'll find many complaints about their router and people bridging it to overcome its limitation. So I have to buy a new router rather than use the Verizon router if I want to get as good speeds as I got when on Verizon DSL? Something sounds wrong here. -- Regards, Joseph V. Morris |

| The FIOS setup is becoming unusable. The wireless functionality in the ActionTec doesn't work anymore, not even if I bring the laptop downstairs and set it up right beside the router.
Speedtest.verizon doesn't work AT ALL anymore, never even starts up.
I was seeing occasional messages of excessive packet loss from the laptop (even when sitting beside the router); now it doesn't work at all, anywhere.
At the very least I need a replacement router. -- Regards, Joseph V. Morris |

I've been on hold for an hour now and all I hear is scrambled music and snippets of other conversations. -- Regards, Joseph V. Morris |

I would keep calling and complaining, but it seems they've now got a solution for that -- don't take the phone calls (or maybe the phone connection is screwed up, too).
If Verizon FIOS is faster than Verizon DSL, I wouldn't know and would just have to take your word for it. -- Regards, Joseph V. Morris |

| reply to jvmorris Try the following in order:
1) Power down the Actiontec. 2) Remove AC power from the Power Supply for the ONT. 3) Remove one of the battery leads. 4) Wait 15 seconds. 5) Reconnect the battery. 6) Reconnect the power supply to AC. 7) Power up the Actiontec. 8) Wait for it to settle down. 9) Check the lights on the LAN power. Are they flickering quickly, with no traffic present? If yes, router probably fried. 10) If LAN lights are OK, check connectivity and speed. |

I think I've gone through this process already with a Verizon tech online. About six hours ago. -- Regards, Joseph V. Morris |

| The ONT is the Optical Network Terminal. That is the box where the fiber terminates and breaks out into coax, POTS, and optionally cat5. It is usually mounted outside, but can also be mounted inside. Inside, you have the Battery Backup Unit (BBU) and Power Supply (PS) which provide power to the ONT.
Do check the lights on the LAN ports of the Actiontec. If they are flashing rapidly with no apparent traffic, that is a common failure mode of the Actiontec. |

| Okay, yeah, that's outside here (and it's sorta dark at the moment).
Lights on the LAN ports on the Actiontec only blink rapidly when I'm transmitting; otherwise pretty stable.
Hmm, are there any built-in diagnostics for the Actiontec that I can access through the browser interface? -- Regards, Joseph V. Morris |
