protecyon, were you on the phone the whole time while the specialist ran those tests? And did the specialist say what problem was there originally that caused it? |

All he said was that the network specialists made some changes on their end. When I asked him what the changes were, he said he didn't know. |

| reply to JohnnyY said by JohnnyY :So jvmorris, till now you still don't know what Verizon did to fix your problem, right? It may not help at all but surely would be nice to know what they actually did. Anyway, anyone who got his/her problem fixed please share it here. . . . That is correct. I got one response in the Verizon Direct forum but the entire system then went down for about four hours (some sort of local aberration that also affected others nearby) including the telephone and the internet (but, oddly enough not the TV).
I haven't had a chance to get back to them yet (and on Tuesday the Verizon Call Assistant wouldn't work and that's also another trouble ticket about which I've yet to hear anything). Unfortunately, it's very unlikely that I will be able to deal with them tomorrow as something else (unrelated) has just come up here and I've got to deal with this first. -- Regards, Joseph V. | reply to Stoic I have the exactly same problem as you guys have. Living in Southern California ( Murrieta), I have really slow DL speed(0.3 Mbps)and normal Upload speed (4.8 Mbps). It Happened almost 4 weeks ago and since then I tried to call and get help anywhere. and no luck so far.
Whenever I called customer services, they asked me to do the same things. (reboot your modem, turn off your computer, go to speedguide.net, and optimize your setting and so on and on...)
Some of them admitted that they have a problem and others did not. I think that they have been received some complaints and they know about it but they couldnt pinpoint what exactly caused this.
Im so desperate !!!! |

2 edits | reply to Stoic my problem was fixed when they replaced the ONT. My situation was pretty wierd though. 900/19000 w/ router, 10000/10000 without router. then 18000/19000 when we changed ethernet wires for some reason, this threw us off; stopped wokring again after a while)

| reply to Stoic So I was over my buddies house on Wednesday and checked out his laptop and internet. He has a new laptop, Vista and FiOS 20/5. He lives 4 blocks away and he is having the same problem and it started this past Saturday. At least I know it's not my hardware or PC. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and explain to them that I have heard a bunch of people are having this issue around me and see what they can do. |

| You people would be much better served by posting in the »/forum/vzdirect than calling level 1 techs, who reportedly are saying that no one else is reporting this problem. Your choice. Find something you can do while you're waiting on the phone, to be told it's only you. |

| Been having this problem since 10/3/2008 No one @ VZ CS couldn't help. They had a outage one time on 10/8/2008, and resolved very next day. But I was still doing between 2 - 5Mbps down. BTW, I'm on 15/2(PPPoE)plan, getting 2Mbps up constantly though. Day before yesterday(10/22/2008), Tech came and replaced ONT with Light-Gray colored Thin-Box(Had First Gen. ONT. Thick and Huge Dark Gray). Also, replaced my D-Link(was given to me when I was getting FIOS installed) with Actiontec MI424-WR H/W Version D, Firm. Version 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.7). I'm STILL doing 5Mbps down/2Mbps up.
Tech told me that they may have to reprogram the card at the CO that I'm plugged into(??. Not sure what he meant). He will come out again on Tuesday(10/28/2008) to troubleshoot. |

2 edits | reply to ProFiOSDude said by ProFiOSDude :Call the FSC and ask to see if your data connection was recently changed over to GIG-E. They may need to contact their Tier II to verify. If the changeover time frame is somewhat coincidental to when you started getting slow speeds, they may need to reboot their edge router in the middle of the night. PFD ProFIOSDude, do you work for Verizon or do you just know a lot about networking?
I mentioned your suggestion to the tech support on 10/21 and she totally ignored me and asked me to skip the router and connect my box to the ONT directly. That didn't help. So she said the ONT might need to be replaced which I was told by other tech supports that it was fine.
So on 10/22 I called again, this time I was put on hold for like 10 minutes or so while the network specialist was checking my line again. While waiting, I asked the middle man to find out if my data connection was recently changed over to the gigabit ethernet, he confirmed it was changed on 9/30. I told him I couldn't pinpoint the exact date but my problem did started around 10/01 or so but waited to call Verizon until the 4th and then I told him to tell the specialist what ProFIOSDude had suggested. THEN the specialist just asked me to wait 24 to 48 hours and if it's still not fixed, call them again. Well, guess what? The next morning (10/23), I checked my download speed and it's back to normal.
This is unbelieveable. Verizon couldn't figure out what my problem was for three weeks and it was fixed only because I mentioned to them a solution provided by ProFIOSDude.
But please people, don't start flooding Verizon with calls asking them to do a reboot just because you're downloading at 18Mbps instead of 20Mbps. This is for extreme cases similar to mine and may or may not be the solution. |

I thought I was the only one. I am in Silver Spring, MD and my service has been just horrible since last Saturday. I just feel better knowing it isn't just me.
This is with 15/2, everything rebooted, same on both computers. I have loved FIOS since day one, until now.

1 edit | Came home from work, and Power-Cycle the ONT by unplug the power cable from the outlet, disconnect the battery from the battery backup unit, and let it sit for about 10min. Also, unplug the power cable from the router as well. And, re-connect the battery to battery backup unit, plug the power cable back into the outlet. Also, plug the power cable back into the router. Ran a test

I will wait 'til Monday. If this stays until Monday night, then I will call VZ, and cancel the repair request.
Now, Got to call Billing Dept for the credit.. |

| So is this ONT power cycle a safe operation? I have been getting slower speeds (not anywhere near yours) and I'm on 15/2 in Carrollton, TX.

| There's only one instance of the ONT blowing up because the battery was put back in service backwards, but the OP was able to convince the techs that it was a lightning strike, so they didn't charge for the damaged equipment.
Ok, j/k.
Seriously, some have been advised by FSC to do a ONT power cycle to clear their problem. Those who are not comfortable with doing that can call for a tech visit.
If you are reasonably astute and can handle putting things back the way they were when you took it apart, give it a try. It is useful to do it without distractions, but since the battery wire connections are physically difficult to reconnect backwards, you should be trouble-free upon reboot. |
|
JohnA Premium join:2003-09-16 Pittsburgh, PA | That can be avoided by only removing one wire, which is enough to break the circuit. |

| reply to ramell Don't be surprise by the spark when you plug the cable from battery back into the unit.
And run a test against at least 2 different sites. I use www.visualware.com and (like you did) www.speedtest.net.
If you still experience the slowness on your line, I would keep bothering customer support, and build up your case(just in case if you are going to get credit for your interrupted service. They don't ask or go over the history of your repair request, but just in case you need to back up your story)
Also, if you could, get a Ticket number if they are going to relay your problem to Network Technician. So, next time you call, you can just give them a ticket# and start(again) from there.
Hope this helps. -- FIOS rider since 2-14-2006 15/2
