Irish Shark : Running the router in mixed mode will cause the router to drop to the lowest speed - "b" mode. The advertised speed on the card (11mbps) is a myth. You will never see that. On a "g" card the best you will see is about 25 mbps.

If the card is dual mode, set it to "g" mode and set the router to "g" mode and not mixed mode.

If that does not do it, get another card.
--
"You can observe a lot by watching".
stever80 : Yes the card is a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN mini card. That card is a mixed card (b/g). The router is set up for mixed use.

Could that be the reason? Seems puzzling considering 802.11b supports bandwidth up to 11 Mbps.
