Both. A 3g 2100mhz device will NOT receive 3g from tmobile because it needs the 1700mhz band too. Called aws.
I think it's 2100mhz downstream, 1700mhz upstream. It is special vs. the euro standard. The only 3g tmo devices are the ones they sell and 2 data cards sold by stelera wireless. That is all so far. No windows mobile, blackberry or sidekick. |

T-Mobile 3G Map Is Their Wishful Thinking
Those maps might be indicative of their plans by the years end, or even next summer.
The GSM and EDGE coverage maps are actually quite accurate, with a little 'stretch the truth' in some spots, but I have traveled around a good deal of their supposedly covered UMTS/HSDPA 3G areas, and find it sporadic and unreliable.
Same deal with my Nokia 6263 AND my Sony-Ericsson TM-506.
I am referring to the Philadelphia market, which had 'already launched' within the past month.
A lot of their solid Blue areas are actually looking more like Swiss cheese, I think they figure if they turn up a few 3G sites in each market, they can call the market as 'being launched'.
Not so fast there T-Mobile, you still have a lot of work to do....  |

»compass.t-mobile.com should show you the data coverage for tmo's 3g network. The south side of chicago should be covered. There might be some weak spots, but it should be. And you are using one of tmobile's 3g phones right? (btw, most 3g phones from tmo will NOT show if your connected to 3g. I think one of the nokia's will if you update it with the nokia updater service and the tm506 is rumored to get the icons in the next update. (RUMOR). I'd dispute that Chicago offering, at least on the south side. You see, this is how the FCC gets bad broadband coverage numbers.T-Mo covers in several spots in a major metropolitan area and then lists the city as covered. It's not, and T-Mos coverage here is non-existant. The FCC should hire the Verizon guy (metaphorically speaking) in order to scrutinize areas that are supposedly covered by all carriers, not just this s***ty company.
