Re: [XP Pro] "ipstacksize" is too small.... said by jefe:Or should I just ignore that error since I don't see any visible evidence it's causing an operational problem? Your 'visible evidence' is the logging of an error event !
Are you running Norton? This KB article seems to finger Norton as a likely candidate.
»support.microsoft.com/kb/177078
Anyway, you can add the value if it doesn't already exist. |

jefePremium join:2001-05-19 Northport, NY | I'm running Eset Smart Security Suite dave.
Let me try creating that key/value and see if it stops the error from re-occurring.
Thanks.

davePremium,MVM join:2000-05-04 not in ohio kudos:7 1 edit | But setting the value to 15 doesn't seem like it's going to change anything, since 15 is the default value.
I guess it's worth a try...
Just to double-check: does the 'source' field for your 2011 event read 'srv' ? |
|
jefePremium join:2001-05-19 Northport, NY | Yes, it read 'srv.'
I created the key with a value of 15. It if I get the error message again I'll try increase the value 3 at time as advised in the KB article. |

Anon00Premium join:2001-09-25 USA kudos:1 1 edit | Are you running any encryption software?
In addition to the Eset suite that is. |
|
jefePremium join:2001-05-19 Northport, NY | Negative.
So far, since adding the IrpStackSize key, I haven't had the error again. |
|
Anon00Premium join:2001-09-25 USA kudos:1 | Oh that most definitely will fix it, just wondering.
I've seen it with Full-Disk Encryption software compounding the issue. |

Re: [XP Pro] "irpstacksize" is too small.... They're back. The irpstacksize error messages, that is.
dave...in that KB article you linked to it mentioned the importance of using the right case. I used the case they showed. However, that KB article is about NT 4.0. In the WinXP Pro Help and Support Center page I get when I click on the link provided in the Event Viewer error it uses a different case.
The article you linked to:
IMPORTANT: Type "IRPStackSize" exactly as it is displayed because the value name is case-sensitive
The article the Event Viewer links to:
Using Regedit, open the following registry key:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\IrpStackSize
So should I be using IRP or Irp?

 davePremium,MVM join:2000-05-04 not in ohio kudos:7 | Hmm, I'm not sure I believe it's case-sensitive. But still...
I'd try the one you didn't try before |

jefePremium join:2001-05-19 Northport, NY 1 edit | I was thinking along the same lines. I racheted the value up 5 to 20. If I still get the errors next thing will be to try the other case. |

I've done 25 with no noticeable ill-effects.
Of course in my case, IRPStacksize errors only occurred when trying to access Shares of a Computer (laptops). Not transferring, just accessing. -- "Ah, women. jefePremium join:2001-05-19 Northport, NY | I've set IRPStacksize to 20. Good so far.
Just out of curiosity did you use IRPStacksize or IrpStacksize in your registry? |
|
 Anon00Premium join:2001-09-25 USA kudos:1 2 edits | As dave suggested, it's doubtful it's case-sensitive.
I believe I've used variations, when doing it manually when the issue presented itself, of the entry to solve the issue, like IRPStackSize, IrpStackSize, irpstacksize. Think I copied the KB when I wrote a batch file to do this remotely.
Oh one more thing, make sure you power cycle like the KB says. -- "Ah, women. They make the highs higher and the lows more frequent." - Friedrich Nietzsche "'It's the law' is just an excuse for the unintelligent and unimaginative to remain that way" - Me |

jefePremium join:2001-05-19 Northport, NY | Well, it was the KB article that dave provided that indicated the case is senstive. But I have rebooted and we'll see if having the IRPStackSize set to 20 solves my problem. |

I might have been doing it that way manually, just been like... 8 months since I wrote it out by hand.
PS Only used this on XP SP2 machines... doubtful that makes a difference. -- "Ah, women. They make the highs higher and the lows more frequent." - Friedrich Nietzsche "'It's the law' is just an excuse for the unintelligent and unimaginative to remain that way" - Me |
