West Coast is more complicated.

Considering that parts of Portland are an anomaly and actually are served by Verizon (with FiOS in some areas), you may get lucky and get upgraded earlier than areas served exclusively by Qwest.

Besides, I think I read that Comcast wants everyone upgraded to DOCSIS 3 by the end of 2010 so that's not too long of a wait.

That's what I am hoping for, I live in a apartment complex sounded by a sea of FIOS. Franky I a bit jealous of and burned by Verizon. They can go to the devil if Comcast goes to DOCSIS 3.

It's great that Comcast is finally about to start competing with FIOS. It will be really special when they start offering this in non-FIOS areas. Verizon will be under more pressure to expand their FIOS rollout then.

For the record, the first DOCSIS 3.0 launch was smack dab in the middle of the country, the Midwest, where Qwest is the ILEC.

I've been saying this all along.. how and where they launch is not always necessarily where Verizon has launched Fios. Its largely based on the rating of the systems itself and if the tech ops are capable of handling such a launch. The St. Paul system is a high B rated system, teetering on the verge of being an A system. (I say St Paul because the classic TWC/Paragon system, I don't think has been rated yet.)
