@comcast.net

DOCSIS 3.0?

what i dont get is why in the hell you need to have DOCSIS 3.0 in your area for this... right now comcast is upgrading a lot of areas to DOCSIS 2.0 (can't tell you how i know this), and you can get very nice upload on that alone, you dont need DOCSIS 3.0 for any of the speeds except the 50mbps one.

That would make little sense. Why would it upgrade twice, basically one right another?

I am sorry but you know nothing what this technology is capable of. Technically in a perfect world with a couple people online then docsis 2 could support your upload and download the way you think....add 100 or more users and those speeds will drop due to congestion!

Add a 100 to a D3 plant and congestion will also cause problems...
On either standard, congestion will mean a split(or splits).

Right?

Congratulations, but my question regards the speculation that DOCSIS 2.0 upgrades are currently underway.

Uhm... how do you think mine went from DOCSIS 1.1 to 2.0?

Umm...most likely a previously-completed plant upgrade. DOCSIS upgrades do not have to be sequential. Since Comcast has begun its upgrade to 3.0, there is no reason for it to currently upgrade a system to 2.0.

Right?
Actually it'll be as it is now. users griping about slow speeds because their nodes are oversold and the cable company not wanting to spend money splitting nodes.

I would imagine running a D2 modem on a D3 system would show up as D2 on the modem(system capable of being backwards compatible). The best bet would be that the vast majority of systems will skip D2 entirely and go straight to D3. There is so little to be gained going from D1.1 to D2 it would not make sense to even bother. D3 on the other hand, is a huge step forward.

Quite possible!
But, since no one here knows for sure, we will have to wait and see.
Speculation is a bitch, aint it?
