Left 4 Dead - Who's With Me?

Who else is going to be playing this with me next month? Can we get a DSLR group together that plays together regularly? I'd rather get some groups together that can learn to play as a team and communicate on the built-in voice chat since this game requires excellent team coordination to succeed. I really don't want to resort to PUGs in this game as I think they are bound for failure. Who else is going to be playing? I already have it purchased on Steam. If you live in a cave »left4dead411.com/ It's the next big game from Valve, completely co-op. You run off alone Rambo style, you die. I already preordered this game because you get a $5 discount if you do. I figure I was going to buy this already anyway. I can't wait for this game to come out either. I am very excited.

In the meantime, I purchased Dead Space and Far Cry 2 to keep me occupied. Well, those games and Warhammer.

You act like you played this game. Rambo style will probably work fine like all other games which say you need teamplay. Just need to learn the game and play accordingly.

Also making a group that plays regularly doesn't even make sense, you just need to make the group and hope people play regularly and do your part.

Cease the assumptions General.

The game looks interesting indeed, and can be rather amusing with the right team . I may or may not decide to purchase it, shall see demo first .

Try, I live in Seattle. Valve is a 15-minute drive from me. I know a tester. Thanks for playing though. And you are completely wrong about the game. Don't take my word for it though, you can play it yourself.

I've been waiting on this game ever since I read about it in PC Gamer either late last year or early this year.

What I found most interesting about it is that first off, it's co-op. Secondly you can play as a zombie and attack the human players! You can setup ambush areas and you have some type of vision where you can see exactly where the humans are so you can attack in surprise. There are suppose to be 4 types of super zombies that players can play.

Sounds like a lot of fun and I love zombie games. I'm broke this paycheck but I will be picking it up on Friday. Lets keep this thread fresh and add in our steam names so we can put each other on friends list. I haven't logged into steam for a while so I cannot remember my name/email addy I used... will check that when I get home.

Dynamic difficulty, AI team when no other people are present. I'm sure you will be just fine without good coordination, of course your teammates will still be putting work in to your advantage. Anyway you can give me the game at any time so I can play it.

Looks like every other zombie source mod, with the same type of blood as seen in half life... and every other mod.

Not worth it in my opinion.

If you are playing the survivors with 3 other real people you have to work together. There are places you can't climb without a teammate helping you. If you fall in battle, your teammate has to revive you. If you are low on health and already used your health pack they can give you theirs. The list goes on. The game forces you to work together or you'll never make it through. No, I haven't played it, but my friend is currently. If you are playing as the infected, then teamwork isn't as much of an issue though it still helps.

No point trying to convince them, narrow minded can't see the full potential of the game. Maybe if they read the PC Gamer preview of it then they "might" grasp the concept of coop.

*EDIT* I'm JIGA on steam.

You're right. How about this, if you aren't interested in the game and just have negative things to say please don't post. This thread is for people who are excited for the game and actually want to play coop together as intended.

Of course, those elements are all taken into consideration and you have to accommodate for all that, that's pretty obvious. Like in GRAW2 that I played, my team is always stuck on me but I did 90%+ of the work. You people are the ones narrow minded here, open games can be played with different styles not just butt buddy style.

I understand the concept of Coop JIGA, where did you get the impression that I did not.

I look forward to playing with you two.

Not to terribly excited. They've made it way to 'unrealistic' when compared to George Romero canon - And it's just way to arcadey now. That said, it still looks like it will be a blast. I just don't like the fact that they made such a major shift towards being an arcadey game.

What do you find arcadey about it? The speed of the zombies? They are following more of the 28 Days Later and I Am Legend type zombie, not the George Romero slow-shambling my grandma has time to aim and shoot them type

In the March 2008 preview in PC Gamer it shows a screen shot with the common zombies in a full sprint. This is a fast combat zombie game. The zombies were inspired by the 28 days later movie which flows well with this game.

quote:
»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_4_Dead
The Infected

The Infected are Left 4 Dead's foe of the Survivors, and they are partly inspired by the infected from the 2002 film 28 Days Later[17] The Infected, as opposed to the slow, shuffling zombies associated with Night of the Living Dead or Half-Life, are fast and agile, creating quite a formidable foe. They can be dealt with easily on their own, but in great numbers are difficult to defeat. In addition, there are five mutated Infected who have their own special mutant abilities and are more powerful than the regular Infected.
This game is actually targeted towards the competitive counter strike crowd, per what the designers of L4D say. If you want a quote source on that find a copy of PC Gamer Magazine issue 172

I've been keeping track of this game since late 2006. It was a lot different then.

i will be buying this as soon as i have the money to do so. Valve has never let me down and L4D looks very good if you actually read up on it. they hired Turtlerock studios into Valve to make the game and the founder of Turtlerock is an AI genious who worked on the Red Alert series.

Read an article about Valve Software/Steam in Game Informer. At the end of the 8 page article there was a one pager about Left 4 Dead. They pumped it up pretty good, and Valve/Gabe has projected it to reach 20-30% higher worldwide sales than the Orange Box.

Here is a small quote from the article.
"Left 4 Dead impressed us so much at E3 that we named it our Game of the Show, and it has only improved in the intervening months."

"Versus in L4D is completely unique and plays like nothing else in video games - the Valve polish gamers expect is evident."

Hell, I was already sold on this game just from the article in PC Gamers March issue I read.
