i rolled back to the previous driver, but didn't help. My screen gets darker and darker as i play till i can't see anything at all.
i'm trying a reinstall right now - i have a GTX260, anyone else with this problem?
EDIT: my bad, i had my nvidia drivers force x16 AA as default and that somehow bugs the game. It still crashed my wife's computer tho - she has a 8800GTS 512. After the drivers are rolled back all is well. |

yea, no, Valve games + Vista + 8800GTx = frustration beyond belief. i crash sometimes, sometimes not. some games, other times no games. i dont get it. tf2, l4d, css, hldm..... no other games do this to my system.

Thats odd. I have an 8800GTX and Vista Ultimate 64 and I've never had a single problem with a Valve game. My biggest problem with Left 4 Dead is the god-awful matchmaking system and server selection. |

Odd.. matchmaking works extrememly well for me, it always connects me to a server within a few seconds or so at max.
Biggest problem I've noticed with matchmaking is joining a expert/advanced server, and having the server default at the normal difficulty. |

im gunna go ahead and ask you to give me your driver info lol. ive tried almost every set.
My computer never crashed until one particular update from steam. dunno which did it, but caused major overlay problems in CS:S at first, then it spread. then it went away, now its back, even without changing drivers...
its mind boggling. hopefully you stumbled on some ultra-resilient drivers that dont have these problems. |

Sorry, shoulda said after 6pm... anyway the driver version is 7.15.11.7824. I think they are pretty much the latest ones unless a new batch has been released since early October. |

I was trying to host local yesterday, but it wouldnt let online players join anymore. Is valve forcing us to use their dedicated servers for public games?

The update yesterday locked Versus mode to 'Normal' mode. Please go post here »forums.steampowered.com/forums/s···t=763346 and tell Valve to give us the option to choose the difficulty when looking for a server to join, and for the lobby host to decide before launching. Valve listens to their players, so please let them know that options are better than no options. |

I was making local servers as well and it took FOREVER for people to join.
And I vouch for the stupid normal on versus mode. Good ole valve already at work. |

Changing the difficulty on versus is a bad idea and they did right to lock it.
Even on Advanced difficulty, some maps become impossible to finish as surivor.
Its a good fix and it'll stay there.

It was always supposed to be played on Normal, the AI director adjusted the difficulty accordingly. |

What do you have against people being able to choose? You can choose your difficulty in co-op, why not versus? You, as a player, should be able to select what difficulty you are looking for when searching for a server. Then there are no surprises and everyone is happy. Those that want to play on normal select that before searching, those who want advanced select that. How could that possibly be a bad thing? Normal is VERY boring. Survivors can always make it through with all green health and not even use a health pack. Yeah, real zombie apocalypse there... |
