My god, CompSci graduates are the biggest fucktards the IT industry has ever seen. Shit like this only makes it worse.
I do agree that computer science has little to do with IT, and even less with network administration. However, I disagree with your comment. I think it's very important to note the difference between a B.Sc CS degree from an actual reputable university, which is bound to have a good amount of math and loads of abstract theory and the "CS" degree from your average tech "college" which consists mostly of how to crimp CAT5 cables and the like.

They are not the same skill sets, and abuse of the term "computer science" is unfortunate, but not so different from abuse of the word "engineer".

Edit: Fortunately for engineers, professional organizations like the OIQ in Quebec force some honesty and respect in the use of the term for both employers and the general public. The same is not true for CS grads.

Computer Science has always been more on the coding side. I've known many a CS grad who couldn't even replace a CD-ROM drive in their computer. Those are not the kind of people you want doing IT and network administration.

Then we are in agreement.

I merely replied because the term you used implied some sort of general incompetence to me. I'm sure there are many people working very successfully in IT with a "traditional" CS education.

Nonetheless you do have a valid point. The problem is disingenuous or confused employers - requiring a CS degree for this type of job is irrelevant and frustrating.
