| [Internet] Speedstream 4200 - Can't connect to PPPoE after FW ch
After finally getting Bell to send me something other than that awful 2Wire modem they seem to be giving out these days, I set about unlocking my new Speedstream 4200. Since the unlock trick didn't work, I searched out and installed what appears to be the manufacturer's firmware (though it was from Siemens' Australian site »www.siemens.com.au/modems which automatically redirected me to www.modemsupport.com.au which had a firmware installer utility.)
The modem works fine, but I can't seem to connect to my Sympatico account using this modem now that it has different firmware. I've tried using both routed and bridge mode, and I have tried connecting through both my new D-Link router and with the modem connected directly to my PC (with a PPPoE connection set up through XP), but I can't seem to establish a connection with Sympatico. I've also ensured that my credentials are correct, just to rule that out.
I have a suspicion that the crippled Bell firmware had some settings configured that I haven't set up in the new firmware. Has anyone here managed to change the firmware and get connected with a 4200? If so, what settings do I need?
Any information would be greatly appreciated. |
