This brings to mind the example of MP3. It was used almost exclusively for illegally sharing songs for a long time before the industry finally embraced it as a way to legitimately sell their wares. We're starting to see more TV shows for sale (iTunes, etc.), but not using P2P yet.
I could get LeafsTV games for $50 this year, one reason they reduced the price (from 60 or 70) is because they had tons of technical problems (slowness) in the preseason trial. If they used P2P (like Sopcast) it would reduce the load on their servers considerably. It works especially well for things like live events where everybody is watching at the same time (tons of peers). |
