anon : Well sure i can take on 2 people at same time depending on their class and a moment of surprise but there is no way you can take a CC/healer at same time no mater how OP Ret can be you still only have anywhere from 10-12k HP which isnt that difficult to down for a caster or even that same stun lock rogue. This is the same thing as everyone have been talking about play on you're own lvl of skill. Its not like you gona Q into an arena match and go up agains 2k rated team and manage to win even if they were running a do or die comp like 2 mages or mage/rogue. Seems really easy when you talk about it but in reality its nearly impossible because they will control you 99% of the time.

I was S1 gladiator on my mage and my partner for 2v2 was another mage that we just kind of mess around with. We dicided to just run some 2s as both frost we hit about 2071 before we decided to call it quits but there wasnt many teams like youre standard war/duid comp that could beat us. On another hand that was good 2 years ago now lets QQ more about Ret back on topic.

They aren't doing anything different than rogues besides the 100-0 is a little faster.

It does matter. Its not a little faster, its 2-3 times faster. The stun as it stands at 50 second CD (its much worse when they can stun you for 6 seconds every 20) isn't the root of the issue so nerfing the stun will not solve the problem. The problem as already been determined by blizz is the amount of burst damage they can put out while their victim is stunned, which is why that aspect was nerfed. No one is really complaining about ret pally's 1v1 in duels, people are complaining because in BGs/arenas, they just roll through people. A rogue pulling off a full 100-0 stunlock or a warlock pulling off a 100-0 fear in a crowded area is not something you see everyday, even in pug BGs someone is bound to interrupt their long chain in which everything has to go correctly. A pally blowing someone up in 1 hammer happens about every 50 seconds per pally.

to be fair, rogues are hitting 6-7k ambushes on 400+ resil clothies all day long. We were already starved for healers and now the few we had (including druids, shaman, and priests) were all playing around with their DPS specs... It wasn't much fun.
--
-- When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command.
pounce : I've got some thought on the whole "pure class" thing that seems to come up a lot during these sort of discussions. IMO, the pure classes are rogue, mage, lock, and hunter. The rest are hybrids, since they have at least one tree that has a different purpose then the others. For example, a warrior has two DPS trees, fury and arms, and a tank tree. The warrior is a hybrid, just like the priest, shammy, druid, pally, and come expansion time, the DK. I agree that the "pure" classes should have an edge in DPS over hybrids. However, it seems that people only include shaman, druids and paladin in the hybrid category, when in reality most classes are hybrid. This is why it doesn't make sense to me when, for example, a ret pally used to and will soon again hit like a girl while the MS warrior pwns. Thoughts?

You had never thought about fighting paladins before, get your HK and move on to the next kill. You might have changed your tune from crying to "Lets do this"! For the vast majority of others they don't want to do anything more than just faceroll paladins, hence all the crying. They still want that easy HK from paladins. It went from them owning paladins to getting owned by paladins. Instead of figuring out how to play against the new and improved paladins, people just cried nerf this and nerf that. I will admit that in pvp a ret maybe OP, but I dont know since I dont pvp much.
I'm sorry but your last sentence basically rendered your argument moot. The reason people say you can "faceroll" as a ret pally is because they are so utterly simple. Its not hard to figure out what a ret pally is going to do. No amount of experience or leet pvp skill will let you counter a near 100 - 0 stun lock. Its silly if the only way to not die within one hammer of justice is to trinket out of it. What do you do when the second hammer comes 50 seconds (soon to be 20 seconds) later? How do you kite someone who has cleanse, bof, pursuit of justice, seal of justice, and can repentence you, which you can't trinket out of since your saving that for the hammer?

What do you do? Well you nerf the stun in a pvp environment. They already nerfed judgement of justice so it doesn't work in pvp, unless it was recently changed back to work with none npc's. Seal of justice only gives a paladin a "slight" chance to stun for 2 seconds. Did blizz change stuns? No, they nerf the paladins only viable tree now which is dps causing damage to the other 2 talent trees. My last sentence didn't render anything moot, because I do pvp, just not "much". Im honestly tired of rogues stun locks and no CD's on locks fears. It is pathetic that a class can stun/fear lock others from 100-0.

Like Jiga said,
said by JIGA :

My Rogue, sure, I can stun lock you from 100-0 but the battle isn't won in >5 seconds.

It doesn't matter that the battle isn't won in 5, 10, 15, or even 20 seconds, it's the fact that you can stun lock a person from 100-0. CC in pvp should be non existent. Fears, cyclones, roots, and stuns should all be gone imho. The argument and crying is about stunned from 100-0 with paladins. They aren't doing anything different than rogues besides the 100-0 is a little faster. All classes had the ability to completely faceroll paladins before, now I guess its going back to that after all the crying and nerfs. /sigh Paladins can limp along to level 80 where hopefully things are balanced. It will be my last level 70 that I level to 80 since it will be an all out struggle and challenge. I know the content will be much more challenging than it was for 60-70 with the release of BC. I might as well /reroll a DK to replace the paladin.

said by Dodge :

said by P Ness :

said by DownLow :

....Normilization my ass blizzard..back to second class hybrids again for all of us

So what exactly did you want, a hybrid outdoing a pure class?!?

Not exactly, paladins want to be as good as other classes to fill multiple rolls when needed to. If you have really nice ret gear, then maybe so. I wouldn't know since I have only played holy. The holy spec sucks balls now. It seems it will suck even more so after these upcoming nerfs. Not all ret paladins can faceroll people, especially others who know how to play their class. I spec'd ret for a time after the release of 3.0! You obviously don't trinket out of repentance, when you see the ret pally still running for you to make up the distance gap, since they have no ranged attacks. Please read the above where it says "ret" before anyone posts that they have ranged attacks(a ret paladin does not). I will re-stated what I said before, "People were able to faceroll paladins before, now they have to actually think about how to play against them, so everyone cried OP!!" That was especially true for ret and prot paladins pre 3.0! Paladins are going to not get played at all now. Since prot warriors can AoE tank better now and the paladin being the worst of all healers now, what are pallies to do? Re-roll I guess. Blizz thought that they could give them at least one viable tree(ret) but after all the crying looks like pallies are going to be buff bots again. Oh wait, we lost some of those as well. Im glad I have other level 70's to play. For those without alt 70's and only a 70 paladin I feel your pain with the nerfs. Maybe Blizz needs to nerf some aspects of the paladin in pvp but for god sake they need love in pve!!(edit: especially need love in group/raid settings .. they are like the scrawny white kid always the last one in line to be picked for the team)

--
TinFoilers UFO Union of America!!
TinFoilers UFO Union Local 101...

SuicideBob : I just joined this forum yesterday, but I've been reading everyone's opinions quite a bit lately and I have to say that most of the points made are valid according to the persons perspective.
I've been playing a rogue now for god knows how long I can't say that I've ever had a real problem fighting paladins up until the 3.0 patch. I have to admit that I wanted to see the nerf bat come as much as the next guy, but that was just the initial QQ that comes from most players when they start a fight and end up dead before they even know what happened. Especially against a class that you previously didn't have a problem with on a day to day basis. After fighting against them repeatedly (with the help of a ret pally friend) and losing more duels than winning something changed. with each fight I learned how to more efficiently fight them one on one.
With the nerf bat coming (more like a nerf bomb from what I've read on the patch notes for 3.0.3) I'm a little disappointed. I think that Blizz went a little overboard with it. I don't currently have a pally so this isn't me whining that one of my character is going to get nerfed. I just thought it was fun to go up against a class that I never put a lot of thought into before. All in all, at least for this rogue, I went from QQ to "Let's do this!"

anon : The same applies to me as the above posters. I don't have 5-6 hours a night to go log onto WoW and raid with hardcore raiding guilds, so when I get an hour or two, it's fun to go log onto a new character and learn it as best you can for the times that you end up having to pvp with/against them or do an instance with them. Knowing what abilities they have, their strengths and weaknesses and vulnerabilities really makes you a better all around player. I don't claim to be the best at anything and I think the general attitude that some posters have on here that they're better than everyone else because they've downed Illidan or been in the top 20% of pvp teams is .. well, ridiculous at best. I'm sorry if some of us just aren't l33t enough for you.

Just because some of us enjoy learning all aspects of the game rather than mastering one alone, spending 6-7 hours a night killing some raid boss, or sporting dual war glaives doesn't make us losers or unknowledgable.

And no, I don't consider myself a master of any of the classes I play. HOWEVER, if you look at all of the brackets, 2V2, 3V3, 5V5, who do you see? Warriors and rogues for starters have FAR more representation accross the board. I'm pretty sure if you compare all the brackets, druids come in close to the bottom in overall representation. Yes, resto is powerful, but it's one out of 3 trees, and mostly in 2V2. I'd like to see the moonkin and feral spec 2000+ teams, lol. It's crazy to me how everyone wants to nerf druids, when other classes are far more powerful overall.

anon : Wow -- the nerfs keep on coming for paladins. No more attacking with Divine Shield up, damage reduced in every seal, judgment and all mana gains halved or more than halved. The math looks like a ret paladin has about 1.5-2m worth of mana using *full* mana rotations of judgement of the wise, seal of wisdom and their new 71 talent to regain mana in a pve boss setting. This cuts their DPS down significantly (25-45%, depending on the boss, player). Fortunately, for healers, with the absence of burst, a priest or druid's HoTs can out-heal paladin DPS in 3.0.3. There's also some concern, and I say that loosely, that the nerfs are going to be problematic for protection build paladins because a portion of their threat comes from seals and judgments. No downranking of healing is causing a problem with the holy paladins as well in the test realm without the mana gains.

What are people's thoughts on here about all of these new changes? (On a side note, GC posted that they made a flat reduction of 20% damage on every seal/judgment -- and then with the change to CS glyph, paladins lose 20% extra crit damage and the talent change to a dot from 25% crit damage increase means that Paladins have the only DPS tree in the game without a crit damage bonus talent.)

On a side note, it turns out that a 50/11/0 build for Warlocks is actually pretty decent right now, although at 71, it'll be substantially better as a 51/11/0 build. Haunt + SL will be formidable. Even at 70, the 50/11 build provides survivability and a full arsenal of affliction damage. I wish I had the Haunt with it for the extra healing back, but without SL, Warlocks are simply too squishy at 70 right now to survive any type of focus.

It may screw rogues up who decide to vanish or re-stealth or whatever without using cloak first (I don't think many rogues think to cloak against a paladin).

Like any good rogue I waited until the initial stun was over so that I could trinket out of repentance. Skill is not a factor. Gear is not a factor. The factor is that Pallies are too far buffed right now.

I hear the argument made by blizzard blue posts and other players that a pally is fine at 80 but appears overdone at 70.
