Downgrading HD DVR 7216 to 6416?

I am having a major issue with my 7216 "channel unavailable" BSoD. I am thinking about asking for a 6416 since most reports are that the black "channel unavailable" issue is only found on the new 7216. I know their trying to phase out the 6416 so I'm not sure if I can actually even attain one.

Verizon says this is due Samsung's faulty HDMI input. Who knows when this will actually get fixed by either Verizon or Samsung. And no, I don't consider using component a solution.

What do you guys think?
Thanks guys!

I switched from HDMI to component on my 7216 and I still get the same issue with channels "currently unavailable". Unplugging and replugging in is the only cure as tech support has not figured out a solution for me.

Channel Unavailable usually means a signal problem, call a tech and have them look at it.

All the techs will do for me is a reset and refresh. What's the magic word to get someone to come out and take a look at things.

Do what the poster above you wrote, if they can't find any signal problems then they have to give you another box, keep calling, don't put up with it.

So basically ALL Verizon's HD DVR boxes are faulty. 6416 users want the 7216 and the 7216 users want the 6416! UNBELIEVABLE.

Who deserves the most blame....Verizon? Motorola?

Then don't look at your 401K

This thread convinced me to hold off on the 7XXX series box. I'll wait.

I just spoke to an install tech that came out to the house on a different issue. He said that Verizon is aware of the problem and that while it IS a problem with only the 7216, there is nothing that can be done at this time other than unplugging the box and plugging it back in. Now if only I can get a fix for the message "Unable to locate DVR hub" on my 6200, I would be happy.

Are there any users that are having this same BSoD issue "currently unavailable" on TV's other than Samsung? If that's true then Verizon's claim that it's Samsung's fault is baloney.

Component or HDMI? If it's component then it's not a handshake issue it's the box or F/W!!!!!

Component. I switched to component last week and had this issue pop up yesterday. The installer also confirmed it is not and HDMI/Component issue. He said it had to do with the way the 7216 processes the signal coming from Verizon.

That tells me it's the STB or signal....this "Samsung" BS is becoming their "staple" excuse for every HDMI issue and it's getting old!

My 401K is fine, isn't it? Oh No!!!

If I do manage to get a 7XXX box. I'll do I a test and return the worst of the lot. That should give the billing department something to work on

The only thing is that at least on my end, the "currently unavailable" message is not a constant thing. If I do the unplug/plug routine, it will work for about 2-3 days before having to redo it. So you may not see the result until later.

Is the fact that a STB reset fixes the issue for a couple days indicate that it's the STB or a signal issue? I mean the "Samsung" never gets reset yet the issue goes away for awhile. Does this make sense?

Exactly....and when it starts to happen again it snowballs and happens more and more often.

No it doesn't. I submitted my question to the direct forum and either they get a lot of requests for that issue, or they ignored it.
