I don't need to buy a humidifier my wife takes long baths with the water on and then a long shower at the end. Just that alone keeps my windows fogged up, sometimes I have to open them just to let out some of the moisture.

Yesterday, as I was driving to work, I heard this loud popping/cracking sound. It was sharp sounding enough to make my left ear ring for quite a bit.

I thought maybe one of the side air bags had deployed or pooped or something. I thought maybe even some plastic trim or something may have cracked or something.

When I got work, I opened up the car door and looked in the back. I had forgotten I had stashed 5 six-packs of soda back there. The pop sound was a can of soda just literally popping its top. There were 4 other cans in there that had popped their tops also and one can that had literally torn apart. Three other cans that had stretched out but hadn't popped, thankfully. Soda on the backs of the front seats, soda on the backs seats and the floor mats.

Luckily though, cleanup was easy since there wasn't that much liquid that had gotten out. It was mostly ice.

I checked the traffic maps before I came. 80 between 355 and 57 was completely red so we ended up taking the "Old" route, 355 to 88, 88 to 294, 294 to 80 (but west bound and only a short distance), then 80 to 57.

Once on 57 it was pretty good. The roads were good except for a few spots but once into champaign, we had some blowing snow to contend with, couple times making the visibility drop, but other times just cool to see.

Normally a 3 hour drive took 4 this time.

Tuesday. A Winter Weather Advisory for accumulating and blowing

Blizzard Warning.

Snow is expected to develop this afternoon and continue tonight.
Storm total snowfall accumulations by early Tuesday morning of 2
to 5 inches are expected... with the greater accumulations across
far northern Illinois closer to the Wisconsin state line.
Northwest winds will strengthen overnight to 20 to 30 mph with
occasional gusts to 35 mph. The combination of fresh snow
cover... continued light snow overnight... and strong gusty winds
will lead to blizzard or near blizzard conditions and dangerous
travel conditions... with widespread visibilities of one quarter of
a mile or less. Travel will become extremely dangerous and may
become nearly impossible late tonight into early Tuesday morning.
Winds will begin to diminish in speed toward midday Tuesday.

In addition... Arctic air moving into northern Illinois behind
this system will also produce bitter wind chills of 15 below to
20 below late tonight through Tuesday morning.

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded... stay with your vehicle.

Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that accumulating snow
will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow
covered roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while

Regarding the farmers almanac, they have nailed it right on. We talked about it in one of my weather classes, and the instructor said it predicts a mild start to winter (I see to recall wearing shorts begining of december I think) with lower than average precip, with a colder and snowyer winter.

I do his front walk only because my wife walks down to the corner to catch the bus to the train and has to walk through it. Otherwise I wouldn't.
