I found a guy who could take care of it quickly. All that needed replacing was the DC power jack...but I think I may have dodged a bullet here.

For future people who find this thread via searches:
The center pin on the back of the jack is crucial for the laptop to function normally. Apparently there is a layer between the top and bottom of the circuit board that handles this center pin connection. If this does not get connected properly you're looking at the laptop functioning only on DC power. The laptop would be unable to charge the battery, but would still work when plugged in.

I figured that since it was modular and relatively easy to replace, that there would be a market for people that broke their power jacks such as I have.

Yikes! That sure is a bit pricey! I see a place that says that they can repair the part for $109.00...whew! It may be worth the effort to check it out and see if you can repair it. Not a bad idea to search out a borked 700m...as long as that isn't the reason it's down!

I have done this with success, recently actually. I'm by no means a soldering expert or close it it! Just a steady hand and a little drop of solder.

Of course I don't know the extent of the damage if mentioned above is even possible.

Edit: After looking at the part it does look like a hard fix to replace the individual dc connector.

The laptop fell on to the floor resulting in some now broken solder points. I am trying to get help through dell support, but it isn't going well. (My great warranty expired last month. I never even got to use it!)

Basically I'm looking for part number C3485-1. It houses the S-Video/Power/Modem/Network jacks and connects via a plug directly into the motherboard. I'm wondering if anyone has an idea on where I could buy this part.

Some ideas I've come up with:
Dell
Ebay, maybe buy a broken 700m

If anyone has a good website that might be able to just get me this part that would be very helpful.
