[Mod note: Split from »I was a big fan of DSLX, sadly not any more (email issues) ]
The port 25 block really sucks and I have had several go arounds with this issue.
The worst part is that you will not receive a bounce when your port is blocked since you are not part of the DSLX network (you are essentially cut off).
You probably would have spent more than 3 hours telling them what is happening. Feel lucky that you have an idea what is going on. They have failed to troubleshoot the port 25 problem without direction.
In my 8 years with DSLX they never communicated the port block. They make random changes and do not inform people what is going on. They will deny any changes to the server including but not limited to renewal of certificates or the end of life of programs like bind. They want to keep things silent hence the extensive use of PM and IM messages as opposed to posts that could be a benefit to all. |

Instant/Private messages are to share private information that should not be posted on public boards. That allows George and Zak to identify a poster's account so that they can provide help to the poster. It is not to hide from the customers. Once this private info is received and the account is looked at, they normally post back with line stats or whatever keeping the support public. -- TH ~ NE ~ EPN ~ NC ~ TD |

1 edit | Problems that are common to dslx on this forum should be posted in a proper manner.
This action is disrespectful and undermines the integrity of this forum. It may also help reduce holding patterns at DSLX.
Users on other forums share ideas to get down to the root cause for the benefit of everybody. After all this is an open/community forum and not a private one.
Yes, I believe in freedom of speech and network neutrality. It is too bad that others do not. |

I am one who has had (one or two) posts modified to remove information of a sensitive nature.
There is no conspiracy here, reread the responce to your post - especially the part about the resolution normally being posted *IN* the forums -- Richard Nelson |

I also can attest to PMs being used primarily to exchange sensitive information. My issue yesterday was swiftly fixed by DSLx-gm once I did enough testing to satisfy him, and I worked with him in a graceful manor. His request to work in PMs was to protect my account information, not to hide what was going on behind the scenes.
While I have no recent experience with the port 25 block (I went to the dark side about a year ago and let google apps host my domains email), I ran an email server right along with all the other services I still run flawlessly on my DSLx connection. Never once did the port 25 block give me issues after I turned it off via the web manager for the firewall (turn off the whole firewall and run your own). |
