| reply to usa2k said by usa2k :said by Gargoyle :What the heck is a "system" protein?!?! Same protein as twofrogs has been running » www.fah-tool.org/index.php?users=f04Hover over the foldy name and that is what FAHlog.txt says it is. Stanford does not have the real WU number or fah-tool.org would display the info already. Hard to even fake the answer when more than one WU has "system" and Stanfor has no points documented at » fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html24284 right now, but I've seen others. So, I should leave Foldy6 alone and let her finish these 4 "system" proteins? It's going to take a long time and I just want to be sure these will count for Helix and Stanford research. -- Team Helix -=- Forever Folding -=- current host of Foldy #6 |

| Let 'em fold, GarG. Just because they can't fix the naming system so it is clear to us ... that doesn't mean the servers don't recognize 'em. They'll be fine, just let 'em fold.
And congrats on sending the first one home. -- Join Team Helix * I am praying for these friends . |

If all four were working on the same project/run/clone/gen number, then you haven't installed correctly. Look again. They can be working on the same project number, but the run/clone/gen numbers need to be different. If they aren't different, you didn't give each one a unique machine ID (1, 2, 3 and 4). -- Join Team Helix * I am praying for these friends . |

In the meantime, I just switched 12 single CPU console clients to three SMP clients on Windows boxen. Two of those SMP clients are installed on a dual QUAD (Clovertown XEON chips), so I may be living a bit dangerously. Did that yesterday afternoon. No mishaps yet, but I'm not holding my breath. -- Join Team Helix * I am praying for these friends . |

| reply to Gargoyle I am leaving the Foldy6 config to 4 console clients. No SMP.
After the first 4 WUs complete (hopefully with the next 2 days) ... I will work with usa2k, and whoever else can help, to figure out how to get Foldy6 stats reported to the foldy monitor. -- Team Helix -=- Forever Folding -=- current host of Foldy #6 |

I would be willing to try and help you out. You are running the new Dell with VISTA, right? Any chance you'd be willing to switch to Linux?
Due to the various and inconsistant methods FAH names the work units, even within the same protein number, foldy monitor and usa2k's fah-tool.org monitor have trouble without some pre-processing. -- Hello, my name is Bill and I'm a crunchaholic...

Or some external processing help. FM is missing a lot of info in the fields. I have fixed most of it here. But due to Jim's domain expiring that I was sending the corrected files to, I have not been able to get them to upload.
I know that he is working on a few improvements for FTM, and that may help with FM some as well. I am not sure if he still wants the corrected .csv files that I have or not. If anyone needs them, I can manually upload them here I suppose. |

2 edits | That domain didn't expire ... just the Web Hosting and email for jn2k.net were changing/halting. (Good until 3/21/2010)
I thought I had you switch to usa2k.com to upload and then I moved to foldy.nozero.org? I don't see an IM where I sent you info though. I do know your help has kept that site looking great! (Some day I will get a way ~ promises-promises~ of a more automatic process that will not need us humans. Until then, you take a load of concerns off the rest of us by keeping the stats pretty in spite of the ways Stanford fails to identify work correctly.)
I am having issues again with foldy.nozero.org getting blocked
Now I have cron running on my host account, I can offload that task from my home PC. Maybe get my stats to foldy.nozero.org that way too. |

| Well, what needs to be done is for you to start uploading some files so that foldy.nozero.org and fah-tool.org can show your blade.
I don't have a single machine running FAH on any flavor of windows, and (shudder) I;m not ready to try and learn anything about Vista till I have to.
Having said that, you will need to figure out how to use curl or some other free program and schedule some file uploads on a regular basis (once an hour is plenty often enough).
On my linux systems I've got a couple of scripts that copy and modify the unitinfo.txt files into the format that the two monitoring websites above like to see. To do that, I utilize the FAHlog.txt, unitinfo.txt and additionally data created by QD to properly extract the work unit name (even when it's missing), and extract or create the Tag when missing, and probably a couple of other things I've forgotten about, including fixing the broken % completion that happens from time to time.
My scripts work for me, are *very* ugly, others like bbarrera created for his systems are far more elegant. -- Hello, my name is Bill and I'm a crunchaholic...

1 edit | Garg and I can get uploads going on windows. Windows is not bad if you don't ask too many things of it We could start with just one client's stats to prove it out
Any time you wish sir. I know you get traveling a bunch. |

| reply to Gargoyle I have a question ... are you guys using UPS to protect your blades/farms from brief power outages? I have Foldy6 on a surge protector ... but we have had 3 minor power outages in the past week and each time Foldy6 re-booted.
So, is there is a reasonably priced UPS solution you guys can recommend? -- Team Helix -=- Forever Folding -=- current host of Foldy #6 |

| I always have my computers (personal and work) on UPS systems. That includes all the crunchers. I'm partial to APC smart-ups systems mostly because the batteries are easy to change.

You don't need a very large unit, 500 watts would be plenty to tide you over short interruptions as the Dell probably runs around 120 watts at full load. -- Hello, my name is Bill and I'm a crunchaholic...
