Re: [FP-Ops] New Foldy6 -- Help Thread

This should get you started before the real experts arrive.

CPU client:
»folding.stanford.edu/English/download

This one:

Windows XP/2003/Vista
Console client only zip file (with Windows-service-install option). Uninstall any existing FAH services made with previous clients before updating. 6.20

Direct link to client download:
»www.stanford.edu/group/pandegrou···-620.msi

Install Instructions on Stanford site (I like these instructions and I would choose the short folder names off the root rather than to install in a long path under Program files or your profile):
»folding.stanford.edu/English/Win···de#ntoc2

FAH WIKI Install Instructions:
»Team Helix FAQ »How do I install the CPU Console client in Windows Vista?

You will want to install four clients, one for each core. Each must have a unique machine ID.

I recommend starting each with these switches:

-local -verbosity 9

Just now I find the public beta WUs quite stable and interesting, so I also add this switch: -advmethods

So ...
1) yes
2) My choice would be to create four folders off the drive root and avoid all the hassle of Vista's permissions in other areas.

C:\FAH1
C:\FAH2
C:\FAH3
C:\FAH4

Like that.

3) Yes, four console clients, unless you want to do SMP. As busy as you are, I don't recommend that.

4) See above.

Come back for help if you need it. Your fellow Ops are awesome at all this.

I am going with the 4 FAH directory structure off root as you suggested.

How does this client.cfg look? Settings OK for FAH1?

[settings]
username=TH_Foldinator
team=4
passkey=
asknet=no
machineid=1

[http]
active=no
host=localhost
port=8080
usereg=no

[clienttype]
type=3

Interesting, mine say the client type is 1.

Some of one of my FAH1 clients, for comparison:

[settings]
username=sortofageek
team=4
asknet=no
bigpackets=big
machineid=1
local=631
passkey=bunchofnumbershere

[http]
active=no
host=localhost
port=8080
usereg=no

[core]
disableassembly=no
ignoredeadlines=no

[clienttype]
type=1
memory=400

Did you say "yes" to big WUs? If not, you should. You have plenty of RAM.
