ruined my week

I'm normally not for government interfering in business matters (AT ALL), but I honestly hope this gets blocked.

currently I have access to these speeds with Embarq (complete with pricing if you have dry DSL)

768k: $29.95
1.5 meg: $34.95
3 meg: $39.95
5 meg: $49.95
10 meg: $64.95

subtract $10 if you have a bundled package.

CenturyTel? Doesn't allow you to have naked/dry DSL...not only that, but the only speed they offer (I don't consider 256k even remotely viable) is 1.5 megabits...and that's more than Embarq's 3 meg package (and it appears that the 15 meg is ONLY available to FTTH customers).

The only thing good I can say about CenturyTel is that it's unlimited...

This totally ruined my week; I just got Embarq's DSL less than 2 weeks ago, and I find this information today....I was looking forward to semi-decently priced DSL, good speeds, and naked/dry DSL....*sigh*.

CenturyTel "Dry" DSL prices:

1.5MB 29.95/mo for 12mo, goes to 49.95/mo thereafter unless new promo obtained.
3MB-15MB 39.95/mo for 12mo, goes to 59.95/mo thereafter unless new promo obtained.

Of course you can always bundle with phone and TV also. Trust me, you will be happier in the end.

It will be okay.

What's their pricing for static IP?

that is not universally available. I hope FCC sticks it to them though and makes it universally available in all of their markets, not just overlapped ones.

1.5 Mbit for $30 per month dry-line isn't horrible (it's $40 here with Qwest, $50 back home with Windstream) but compared with cable not terribly great.

Problem: 1.5 Mbit DSL is slow. Cable in all areas has a faster speed option than 1.5/256 like CenturyTel has. Are there any higher tiers for CTel dry line?

Expensive pricing once out of promo...though 15 Mbit for $40-$60 sounds fine by me. Too bad it's not available everywhere.

What are the various 3+ speed tiers for down\upload?

Also, I don't have a landline and have no intention of getting one. I don't have TV and have no intention of getting it. Yeah, I pay more, but I don't need the other services.

Sorry about missing the uploads...

256/128 (not available "dry")

1.5/256

3-6/512

8-15/768

Those are for now, and will likely be changing as time moves on.

For static IP it is a bit pricey, but available with reverse DNS and all the goodies if you like, $20/mo.

Cool, thanks for the info. Though the upload speeds are rather anemic.

I agree they should be increased by at least double what they are now.

ADSL2+ only supports up to 1024k upload less overhead. They'd have to go to pair bonding or VDSL.

Pair bonding is quite the natural with CenturyTel. It's done all the time with the copper IPTV. But we will see what comes about from everything.

YOU are DEAD WRONG.I have dry dsl and thats what i am using right now and IF it had been available here in my area i would have 10meg.Actually with some luck according to Techs we will see that speed next spring AND that is on a dry/naked dsl line

My beef with the uploads isn't so much on the higher tiers, though they could be upped from 768k to 1M without a problem, but with the lower tiers (seriously, 256k up on a 1.5M line? 384k at least!). Also, fiber tiers (15 Mbit) should have 1-2 Mbit upload. Heck, you could do symmetric with those; the tech certainly supports it.
