These channels are going SDV. So it looks like more HD channels are going to be added via SDV. Except for KUSI HD and XHDTV HD. Our MNTV affilate XHDTV still doesn't have their digital signal up yet. They are licensed in Tecate, Mexico which means they don't have to follow our laws in regards to DTV. XETV the CW affiliate has HD. Once XHDTV goes digital they will start airing HD MNTV and HD syndication. |

| TWC San Diego is now deploying Tuning Converters for CableCard HDTV's. It's similar to an HD box but doesn't have all the Digital cable features. It is however 2 way capable so it can handle SDV. Who knows how much SDV capacity they have. They have been really nice in adding new HD channels but there is always more. None of the QAM channels exceed 770 MHz. They most likely have an 870 MHz system but only use a portion of it. One rep said they had a 1 GHz cable plant. If that was true then they should add more HD channels. At least they would be better prepared for Docsis 2.0. |

| The northern ex adelphia has less HD channels since they don't have SDV. I bet they'll need a big band SDV solution since that works on both Moto an SA/Cisco. The Main TWC headend is a Cisco/SA headend that has SDV. The SA areas use a Cisco/SA SDV solution that doesn't work with Moto headends. I'm in a Cisco/SA area. San Diego is testing the SMT-H3090 but I don't know if they started deploying them. They are probably deploying the SMT-H3050. Not sure what they are using. Probably the underpowered POS 8300/8240HDC and the 4250/4240HDC. The Moto boxes might be deployed in the ex adelphia area but I think they will use all Samsung boxes. The Samsung boxes are tru2way so they can deploy it in moto areas. |

| Peering into your crystal ball, do you have any idea when the ex-Adelphia area (Carlsbad) might get SDV and the Samsung boxes? We still have the Moto devices and quite honestly, I have been very happy with the level of service we have been receiving. Mind you, I am always open to additional HD channels... but then again, who is not? |

| They are testing a different kind of Samsung box. Model numbers are 3260 and 3270. It's in the final stages of testing. It should come out by the end of April. I also heard they are testing Moto boxes. The Moto box is probably the DCX series which is an OCAP/tru2way box. The DCX can work in the ex Adelphia and TWC San Diego. I don't work for them of course. The DCX is a nice box from what I have heard. Comcast is testing them with 250 GB HDD's. The Samsung will have a 320 GB HDD. Mind you the DCX can be ordered with a 320 GB HDD if TWC wants to. They will probably do just that.
As for SDV ask Bob Barlow at firstname.lastname at twcable dot com. Just change the firstname.lastname to his name. I wanted to reduce the spam. I think they are working on a solution to use the Cisco SDV on the Moto headend. They could use Big Band SDV equipment and be done with it. Of course the iGuide has to be fairly recent in order to support SDV. |

1 edit | reply to Flashfox I've heard that the North County area will still use iGuide but the new boxes will run an OCAP/tru2way version. If they are testing Motorola boxes then they will likely get Moto boxes. The Samsung boxes can run on the Moto network. It's up to TWC to decide what they are going to use not me. |

| San Diego has added the Pentagon channel though it's not in HD. Expect more channels. Probably a few HD channels with a ton of SD channels. They are going to add a Korean channel which makes sense since there is a sizeable Korean community here in San Diego. That channel will likely be a SDV channel since there won't be many people watching it. |

| In 30Apr2009 SDUnion, TWC-SD posted a LEGAL NOTICE, giving the mandatory 30-day notice that things could be changing:
1. A number of carriage agreements are up for negotiation and potentially could be dropped. [Possible, but unlikely.]
2. The following (NEW SDV!!!) channels will not be available to Unidirectional DCR (e.g. CableCARD) customers (no date given): ESPN-News-HD, E!-HD, TennisChan-HD, Smithsonian-HD, KUSI-HD, Chiller, PBS-Sprout, RetroPlex, Big10Ntwk-OnDemand, XEWT, XHUAA, GalaVision, ZeeTV (Hindu), TVK (Korean), KBS (Korean), GMA Pinoy (Tagalog) and VirtualVideoStore (huh??? sounds like VOD).
3. The fol. channels will also migrate to SDV by "May 09": FineLiving, FitTV, DIY, NatlGeoChan, Bio, HistIntl, Ovation, GAC, G4TV, Boomerang, WAM, Bloomberg, CNNIntl, EWTN, TBN, Word, AmLife, Insp, GospelMusicChan, iLifeTV, EncoreAction, EncoreLove, EncoreMystery, EncoreTrue, FoxMovieChan, Sundance, IFC, IndiePlex and FLIX.
4. XHAS (Telemundo) "MAY MOVE" from Expanded (Ch66) to Local Basic (Ch95) "on or about June 2009".
5. HDNET "MAY MOVE" from HDVipPak to VarietyTier "on or about June 2009".
6. They are in negotiation to possibly carry KUSI-HD.
So yeah some new HD channels. 5 New HD and HDnet will move to the variety tier. No FSN Prime Ticket but the northern Ex Adelphia area has it. It would be nice to have it for San Diego. TWC San Diego hasn't decided to make a 24 hour FSN West HD and FSN Prime Ticket HD channels yet. It would be nice though. |

So San Diego will be getting some new HD. Could the HDnet move be a result of new negotations? |

| reply to rv65 XEWT-TV/TD/DT and XHUAA-TV/TD/DT might be added. This might be great if you like Mexican programming. Don't think TWC SoCal will add this. These channels might prove popular with the latino community especially in LA. They would love to have Mexican shows direct from Mexico. Though Televisa and Azteca sometimes forget to flip the switch and end up showing stretch-o-vision which is really, really bad m'kay. If they add XHTIT and XHJK in HD then it would be awesome since those channels have severe cochannel interference. |

| reply to rv65 HDnet is still a maybe. I think they will have to take it off. TWC might just work out a last minute deal. I can finally receive Bio HD. You have to have the up to date packages in order for this channel to work. A bunch of stretch-o-vision.
In non HDTV related news Start Over has been activated. It's a nice feature when it works. It's like VOD but you can't FF a show to skip the ads. Only works on certain SD channels. You can however rewind the show. The record function is also disabled.
So the possible channels are.
Smithsonian HD (721) (if HDNet goes away on 5.31.09) MavTV HD (722) (if HDNet goes away on 5.31.09) Tennis Channel HD (7xx) E! HD (748) ESPN-News HD (7xx)
Hope this helps. |
