| Telecom Pin Ball I feel like I am being bounced around in a Telecom Pin Ball Machine. I subscribed to Sprint land line service when I moved to this area in January 2006. Sprint soon became Embarq. Now Embarq will become the Who? or What? Telephone Company. I wonder if this means that our land line rates will increase or features in my feature package will be reduced? I was thinking of switching from Comcast Broadband to Embarq Broadband because of cost and limitations being imposed by Comcast. I wonder by how much the new company will increase broadband rates? I think I will sit on the side lines and make no changes until the dust settles. |

bobvickPremium join:2008-04-01 Brilliant, AL | I have lived in the same area for 25 years. In that time, my local telephone company was Continental Telephone, which then changed its name to ConTel. ConTel was acquired by GTE in 1990-91 and GTE and Bell Atlantic merged to become Verizon in 2000-01. Verizon sold its Alabama lines to CenturyTel in 2002 and now, in 2008-09, CenturyTel/Embarq will likely change their name. That is 6 different names and 4 different companies. |

dsldude08Premium,VIP join:2008-01-03 La Crosse, WI kudos:2 | reply to Mr Matt If you look at both companies, their current rates are very similar and competitive. Therefore, you should not expect any rate increases. CenturyTel hasn't increased their internet rates for some time now, unlike others who do it on a yearly basis. It'll be a while before this fully completes, but we will see what the end result is. -- "We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution." - Abraham Lincoln |

I know they have gone up for sure, but I'm just saying...you know, not that much compared to others... -- "We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution." - Abraham Lincoln |

CenturyTel just took over Madison River and all of the email domains are still used for those customers. Same with the old CSWNet, that was a LONG time ago. »webmail.centurytel.net - check out the drop down menu, they're all there and they aren't going anywhere. -- "We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution." - Abraham Lincoln |
