In that time, my local telephone company was Continental Telephone, which then changed its name to ConTel. ConTel was acquired by GTE in 1990-91 and GTE and Bell Atlantic merged to become Verizon in 2000-01. Verizon sold its Alabama lines to CenturyTel in 2002 and now, in 2008-09, CenturyTel/Embarq will likely change their name. That is 6 different names and 4 different companies.

I know they have gone up for sure, but I'm just saying...you know, not that much compared to others... -- "We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution." - Abraham Lincoln

CenturyTel hasn't increased their internet rates for some time now, unlike others who do it on a yearly basis. It'll be a while before this fully completes, but we will see what the end result is. -- "We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution." - Abraham Lincoln

CenturyTel just took over Madison River and all of the email domains are still used for those customers. Same with the old CSWNet, that was a LONG time ago. »webmail.centurytel.net - check out the drop down menu, they're all there and they aren't going anywhere. -- "We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution." - Abraham Lincoln

| | Embarq advertises lifetime prices. I'm sure CT will keep that going if you get in now. | |
