WiMAX has an advantage over LTE...

...it's already out. It has been deployed in a lot of situations, and since it's a more WiFi-ish technology (802.16) consumer electronics devices are going to more readily adopt the tech. I'll believe the LTE hype when I see it; sounds like the tech won't be available until Comcast has brought DOCSIS 3 to all its markets

LTE may have deep pockets, but it may be a successor tech to WiMAX rather than a competitor, at the rate WiMAX is rolling out (and LTE isn't). Especially in countries where HSPA isn't widely deployed.
