pantech um175 connection manager?

i have millenicom and had to send my franklin 680u back a couple days ago because it died. they sent a pantech um175 but it didnt come with a connection manager like the 680u. can i get one for the pantech so i can see my signal strength and change things like my home agent?

go to »vzam.net, select the Pantech, and download Verizon Access Manager. I'm surprised this was not included with your modem.

call up support, they are 24/7, tell'em you need a number or see if you can find anything in the modem properties. heck, plug in millenicom's number and see if that works know anybody with a Verizon phone?

I'm a bit worried about this situation myself. My CDU680 just "died" tonight and will be getting the Pantech UM175 from Millenicom. According to Verizon's coverage map I am in a dead zone for their service. I get Sprint and Alltel. Yes, I know Alltel is being bought by Verizon, but are they already considered part of Verizon's network yet?

FCC has not finalized deal, it is imminent, but they are not combined yet.

Which means I may have some issues with the new modem. Great. Just what I needed.

Really hope that the Pantech connection manager can be used with a Millenicom device, because otherwise there will be no way to make adjustments for receiving the best signal, or even know if you're getting an EVDO signal other than performance of your connection (1xRTT isn't usable for what I do).

OK here's what you do. Go to »vzam.net. and click on "Consumer Downloads". In the drop down boxes select your operating system and modem. When it asks for a Verizon number enter all 0's, that is 000-00-0000. You can then download Vzaccess manager. Its a 13.6 MB file.

K, downloading now. Hope to get the modem by Saturday, but probably won't until next week some time. I'd imagine Millenicom is probably sending out a lot of em this week.

EDIT: Thanks for the help so far Jim.

dMarks, a suggestion. If you are using any external antennas you probably want to go ahead and order a pigtail/adapter cable for the Pantech now. Have it for when the modem arrives.

Yep, did that last night. Probably won't get it until Monday though. Paying +40.00 for overnight shipping is a bit much for someone drawing unemployment.

I completely understand my friend. You can often get these at Radio Shack. The adapter cable for the Sierra Compass 597 and the Novatel U727 also fits the Pantech UM175

DOH!! My dad I think has an extra adapter for the 597 Now that I go back to where I ordered it from it did mention the Compass on the list of compatible devices. Perhaps I can return it if I find my dad does have one.

Also, when my dad got his Sierra, he went to a few places around here, including Radio Shack but they didn't have the adapter.

@swbell.net

I've had issues for the past 24hrs and spoke to a tech with Millenicom this morning. Apparently they've been cut off by Sprint for some reason and everyone will be receiving the UM175. Whether or not the new modem is through sprint, I don't know but the general google consensus is that it is now Verizon. I'm just glad they have tech support and respond....

Everything is still working fine here with my U720 on Sprint. At least I have a Verizon EVDO signal if *everyone* ends up getting switched over.

Re: Reactivating dead CDU680's

I recently noticed a rash of users with problems with their CDU680 from Millenicom, and MC swapped it for a Pantech175 and that was the end of the problem, but I think the real problem was Sprint lost or deleted or deactivated the authentication sets (the MDN and MDID numbers you put in when running the activation wizard) for a large number of MC CDU users. I don't have absolute proof positive of this, but this is the impression I got from the senior tech guy.

They were going to swap me a Pantech for my CDU, but the senior guy said to try re-authenticating with a new set of numbers he gave me and that did it...connected right away...nothing wrong with the CDU.

So now I'd like to know what you new Pantech folks think of it? Is it noticeably better or worse in any way from the CDU? Does it have a ##DEBUG screen? It would be good if someone started a thread for Pantech users so we could all get a feel for this new device that one day we may have to use. Thanks to anyone providing some feedback here.

JAC, from what I understand, you will probably have to call up Millenicom's main office and get in touch with a senior tech for new MDN and MSID numbers. Just let them know that Verizon is not available to you where you live, so you need the CDU680 reactivated.
