AOL 9.0 VR Not Finding Router

I have a Windows XP PV with service pack 3. I am trying to install AOL 9.0 VR with my Netgear Rabge Master DG834PN. I am in the UK. The software does not seem to recognise the fact that I want to use an ethernet connection and so does not find the router.

Hi. Did you configure this DSL router completely before running the AOL application?

If not, I can guide you through fixing the router up. If you have the CD for the router on hand with you, it'll simplify things a bit more.

Anyway, AOL will run over ethernet, there's no need for the software to look for the router. You have to configure AOL manually so that it runs over ethernet.

I don't know if VR follows the same setup but the outline below should be similar. Anyway, all you need to do is while starting up AOL is click on "Sign On Options" or Connect Options on the sign-on screen.

Click Expert Setup.

Click Add Location.

Type a name for the location in the Location Name box (eg Router), then click Next.
Choose Broadband (High-Speed, cable, DSL, or other ISP), then click Next.

The next option is useful to sustain connections to AOL servers >> Tick Automatically reconnect me and ignore interruptions... then click Next.

Select Automatic Connection, then click Next.

That should set you up ready to go when you sign up to AOL. Choose router (or whatever name you gave for the location option) and use it to sign on.
