| reply to Kearnstd said by Kearnstd :16/2 is the highest they go on your current modem. to go for 22 and 50 tiers you have to rent their DOCSIS3 Cisco modem(atleast until moto puts the 6120 in a store near you). Does this mean that it may be awhile little longer before Comcast upgrades their speeds again, assuming that there aren't as many DOCSIS3 modems out there as the current ones? I mean if speeds were upgraded farther than 16/2, everyone would have to get another modem from Comcast. |

| reply to ztmike I guess they figure that people will do exactly what the poll suggests they'll do. Either downgrade to the 12/2 or upgrade to the 22/5. And, for those who just want to stay on the 16/2 it will be more or less a grandfathered in tier.
I think the 22/5 is very competitive at the 62.95 they're asking. 2 bucks and change a day for speeds like that seems to me to be a real bargain. Not sure yet whether i'll upgrade to it but it will be nice just to have the option to. -- The Coyote captured the RR! Roadrunner Rick is now Comcastic! |

| reply to Rob said by Rob :They should keep the 16/2 tier plan. Not because it makes sense, but because it gives the consumer an extra choice - and more choices is better than less choices. Plus, it helps them compete in some markets. I hope they also add 1/1, 4/1, 6/2, 8/2 for the same price as 12/2, it would give the consumer even more choices |

1 edit | reply to ztmike Hi,
AS a test of actual download pipe size/speed, I use the 100MB broadband download test on www.testmy.net With Powerboost working as well as it does on smaller downloads, you need a beefy test to see a more real-world number. Typically I am averaging about 10.5 Mbps according to their test.

3 edits | reply to EG EG, I'm just sayin'... It sounds like people are confused about the new tiers, maybe if it was 10/1 instead of 12/2 it would be more balanced and people would be more enthusiastic about the change...
P.S. Did I mention that I'm glad after this post that this board does not work on a karma system? I think I might get voted off the island if it did... |

most docsis1.1 builds will do 4-6 up and 20-30 down. Here in former insight land we are docsis 2.0 and it will do up to 10 up I have seen the speed tests before comcrap took over the area |

Here in former insight land we are docsis 2.0 and it will do up to 10 up I have seen the speed tests before comcrap took over the area Comcast isn't going to provision 22mbps for a single user into a 38mbps channel. By policy, they'll only give you the 22mbps tier if they can use a D3 modem to balance your traffic across at least 3x38mbps downstream channels. So yes, while it is indeed possible for a D1.1/2.0 modem to do 20-30mbps downstream, it is highly unwise to provision it that way given the current subscriber loading of the downstream channels.
You'll find this out when you try to order the Ultra service once it becomes available. |

3 edits | reply to ztmike Just thought of something..maybe Comcast can go for 16/2 instead of 12/2 and current 16/2 users would be upgraded to 22/5, and 8/2 users would see the bump to 16/2-but pay the same price as users from the 6/1 tier.
That way everybody is happy and Comcast would be leading the way for speeds/pricing..
But we all know Comcast doesn't like making sense..so I doubt it will happen. |
