I think something is wrong with my APE. I keep getting drops (no time capsule). Resetting the APE always fixes the problem |

| PPPoE is ethernet. Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet.
Not sure why you wouldn't be able to change the WAN port setting when using PPPoE. That WAN port setting just configures the speed at which your modem and the AEBS talk to each other. That doesn't have anything to do with the PPPoE protocol that I'm aware of (but I could be wrong). You should be able to set it to 10/Half, 10/Full, 100/Half, 100/Full, 1000/Full, or Automatic. When it's set to automatic, the AEBS figures out on its own which speed it needs to talk at. |

| reply to Heelfan71 I had my modem in "bridged ethernet" mode and the APE in PPOE. I just switched it so the modem is PPOE and APE is now ethernet. I was reading somewhere about APE having problems with PPOE for some people since Leopard came out. Hopefully this does the trick. |

| reply to Heelfan71 OK...this is just weird. I pulled out an AirPort Extreme that I haven't used in a while and swapped out the Time Capsule with the AirPort Extreme. The same thing happens with both the TC and the AE. If I set the WAN port to 10/Full or 100/Full my internet doesn't drop, but my speed when I do a speed test is less than half what it should be. If I set the WAN port to 10/Half or 100/Half my internet doesn't drop and when I do a speed test it's right where it should be. If I set the WAN port to Automatic, the speed test is right where it should be but my internet drops at least once a day. When it drops I can get it back by either resetting the TC/AE or (in the case of the TC) clicking a couple times on the Renew DHCP Lease button in the AirPort Utility.
I've always had the WAN port set on Automatic and never had any problems until about the time this thread was first started (about three weeks now, I guess). On top of swapping around the TC and AE (and having the same problems with both), I've also changed out the ethernet cable between the modem and the TC/AE. So...I'm guessing there's some sort of craziness going on with my cable modem. |

Switched it back to Modem=Bridged Ethernet and APE=PPOE and I lost connection within 5 hours. Wondering if I just have a faulty APE or it is something with my modem. |

| reply to Heelfan71 okay, I hooked up a Netgear router thinking my APE was the problem and the same thing happened (dropped connection). Strange think is it always happens at night between 8-9pm. Could it be a problem with my modem? I know it is one from Bellsouth and I have had it for 10 years. |
